For example, a newly discovered monkey species with bright orange lips has been found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is definitely a quirky find. And in London, a monkey was actually found abandoned in Skyder Laundry Bag on a bus, and it has now been safely rehomed to a sanctuary. So this newly discovered monkey with the bright orange lips is definitely a fascinating one.
It was just recently found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Researchers are calling it a pretty unique find because it has these really distinctive features around the mouth area, which is quite unusual for primates in that region. It's definitely adding a splash of colour to the world of wildlife news.

Absolutely. This is indeed a newly identified species, officially called the Colobus congoensis, or locally the Likweli monkey, which sounds like a joke because it's not quite the name for nothing. But it was officially recognized as a distinct species by scientists in July 2026, making it only the fifth new African monkey species discovered in the last 75 years.
This little monkey has a striking black coat, a bright orange cream patch around its mouth and nose, and a pretty unique set of vocal calls. Scientists say it's about the size of a small dog and seems to keep to the high tree tops of its rainforest home. So yeah, it's a totally new addition to the primate family tree.
