ALERT: Did Auburn Spend Its Money on the WRONG Players? | Auburn Football Podcast

The Auburn Express

October 8, 2026

Auburn football invested heavily in rebuilding this roster, but five games into the season, one uncomfortable question has to be asked: Did Auburn properly evaluate where that investment needed to go? That conversation starts with Byrum Brown, but this is much bigger than Auburn’s quarterback.

Jägermeister knows that there's people who watch the game and people who know the game. Knowers know rivalries aren't heated.

SPEAKER_2 (0:07)

They're ice cold.

SPEAKER_1 (0:09)

They know rankings change. Traditions don't. And they know that when you drink Jägermeister on game day, you drink it ice cold. Otherwise, you just don't know the game.

So drink it ice cold, or don't drink it at all. Jägermeister, damn that's cold. Drink responsibly. Jägermeister liqueur 35% alcohol by volume. Supported by Mass Jägermeister US, White Plains, New York.

Having uncontrolled eosinophilic esophagitis or EOE can mean you're stuck in many ways, like cutting your food into tiny pieces, or stuck chewing food for a long time. Dupixent Dupilimab, a prescription medicine for patients one year and older weighing at least 33 pounds can help with that. It's a breakthrough treatment that can reduce inflammation in the esophagus and improve swallowing.

How about this? Dupixent is not a steroid. It proactively treats EOE so you can get ahead of it.

Severe allergic reactions, including skin reactions, can occur. Get help right away if you have trouble breathing or wheezing or swelling of your face, mouth, tongue or throat. Tell your doctor of new or worsening joint aches and pain or a parasitic infection or asthma. Don't change or stop other treatments without talking to your doctor.

Why clean out your QB room? Why do that?

And then for what they spent on him, reportedly north of $3 million, if you're gonna win five games, you could have done that with a guy with multiple years of eligibility left, and then went and put a gangster offensive line around him for what you spent on Byrum. Right.

Ike Jones (4:14)

Yeah, listen.

SPEAKER_6 (4:16)

This is not to knock it by Remy. I'm just saying this is part of, I think why in the NFL, coaching and personnel decisions are two different disciplines. And very few owners delegate both those disciplines to one person. Because sometimes the coaches can lack objectivity when it comes to certain personnel.

And a GM will look at it very unemotionally and more holistically and say, here's how we evaluate this person. This is what this person gives us the best. This is what the tape says. This person gives us the best chance to win. Right. Doesn't matter what your relationship to the player is. None of that. All that matters is are they the absolute best that we're going to get for our money? And are they a good culture fit? What we're trying to build?

For years and years and years, Ike, the Patriots proved that overpaying players, you don't have to do that to win Super Bowls. Yeah.

Ike Jones (5:36)

Yeah. It all comes down to fit and evaluation.

SPEAKER_1 (5:39)

Yeah.

SPEAKER_6 (5:40)

They did that well for almost two decades.

Ike Jones (5:42)

That's why I don't really like the conversation about how much money gets spent is so irrelevant to me. It's like, I don't really care how you spent the money.
