Auburn football has more questions than answers after the loss to Florida, and some of the biggest questions are about how this offense is being called. Why isn't Auburn doing more to stretch defenses horizontally in the running game?

But they haven't come back to anything that stretches the defense horizontally in the run game.

Like, even if you're having success with running between the tackles, which they had a decent amount of success, they were getting two and three yards. And I will remind offensive coordinators around the world, a profit is better than dropping back and getting nothing or getting sacked. So I don't understand this idea that we got four yards in the run game. So the next play, we should run the exact same thing again to the exact same spot, but maybe change up the block. Like, that's not smart. That's very like people on NCAA video game type of play calling. But I also don't understand having success in the run game and then going away from the run. Like, I just think you had to vary it up a little bit more.

And it just, it just, I've got questions about the way plays are being called a little bit. And I have questions about whether or not this is a decision-making issue for Byrum Brown some of these times with the handoffs. Like some of those times it felt like he could have kept the ball. And whether it was called or not is like, okay, I feel this defensive end crashing down. I see the safety. Like I just, I wonder if these are called runs and he's just like, I'm just executing the play or if he's making bad decisions in those read situations.

Ike Jones (4:30)

Yeah, those reads are definitely a skill. And the better quarterbacks see it the right way 95% of the time. So whether they decide to keep or play and if you're going to stop them, it's just because you're going to make a really, really good play on the player. I'm just not sure that that's being executed well enough for the run game to get going.

They had some stuff on some sweeps that they showed us, you know, in the first two weeks, there was one, like was it a Jet Sweep to Bryce Kane that I thought we might see a little bit of that today? I don't think they ran one all day.
