Auburn football got the win against Baylor, but nobody should confuse winning with playing a complete football game. Now Southern Miss gives Auburn an opportunity to clean up some of the issues that showed up in Week 1 before the schedule gets significantly tougher.

So, if you do that and accomplish that, congratulations. But otherwise, I'm not letting you dink and dunk all the way down the field. Now, having said that, if you're going to be aggressive to stop the box, somehow you have to contain Auburn's quarterback, and that is easier said than done.

SPEAKER_2 (2:23)

So, Auburn fans will be familiar with at least two of the names, depending on how closely you follow recruiting that are on this team defensively. Laquan Robinson, the safety, used to be at Auburn a couple of years ago, transferred out.

And then, Kobe Alberts was a guy who was, I think, committed to Auburn at one point in time, if not had signed with Auburn. But those two names should be a little familiar to Auburn fans. Talk to me about, you said they forced four turnovers. Talk to me a little bit about that defense for Southern Miss. And what impressed you? What did you not like so much about that first showing?

SPEAKER_7 (3:04)

Well, it's tough not to like what you see, 49 to three, right? And Alcorn State only had a couple hundred yards total.

But last year, and I didn't see a whole lot of the game this year, when Charles Huff and Southern Miss was winning last year, they were forcing poor decisions from the other team, rather than, you know, forcing the turnovers, per se, if that makes any sense, right? Instead of just throwing the ball away, quarterbacks would throw it in traffic when they didn't really need to. And if they just threw it away, it wouldn't have been a turnover. And so, and when that stopped happening, they started losing, right? They blew what should have been an easy coast to the Sunbelt Championship game. Troy actually went into Hattiesburg and beat them last year.

They still went to a ball game. Huff was gone by then, but they stopped turning the ball. They stopped forcing turnovers and they had trouble scoring and stopping the other team. They were last year, they were very much a bend, but don't break defense. They would go down the field and all of a sudden, inside the 20, they tighten things up. I think Blake Anderson is going to be a little bit more aggressive and hopefully defend the big plays, but try to make Auburn make the big plays instead of dinking and dunking down the field.
