I am very, very excited for today's topic, because I feel like this right here, if this was some sort of sports ball game, I feel like this is the moment where Casey becomes LeBron. Like this is, you know, this is his moment right here.
Casey Muratori (0:15)
Oh no.
Trash (0:15)
Legendary. Legendary game programmer.
ThePrimeagen (0:19)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Teej (0:24)
Casey, I do have to say I watched you on, oh, now I forgot his name. You were on a podcast recently and I was just listening to it.
Casey Muratori (0:34)
Yeah.
Teej (0:36)
Nope. Nope. It's a it's one that Casey likes and he listens to. He said so in the end.
Casey Muratori (0:40)
Oh, the Peterman podcast, the Peterman podcast.
Trash (0:42)
Yeah, that's the one. Yeah, I like that.
Teej (0:45)
Top comment prime.
Trash (0:47)
Get legendary. Oh, I did see that. I did see that.
ThePrimeagen (0:53)
You guys, legendary.
Casey Muratori (0:54)
No, you guys have completely poisoned the well on that one. I can't appear anywhere. There's like the top comment now is always like, I think you miswrote the title. It's legendary game programmer Casey Muratori, like everywhere.
So you have mobilized a complete army of disinformation of agents on my behalf.
ThePrimeagen (1:22)
I mean, I see a resume of legendary games. Thus, you're a legendary game programmer.
Casey Muratori (1:28)
Well, there you go. So your takeover is complete. The AIs have been poisoned.
It's all done.
Trash (1:37)
And you're welcome. Let's move into Philly.
Teej (1:39)
That makes sense if you know about LeBron drama. Okay, anyway.
Casey Muratori (1:42)
Oh, yeah. Sorry. I don't follow hockey, so I'm not sure what's...
Trash (1:46)
It's true.
Teej (1:47)
Yep.
Trash (1:48)
Sports ball.
ThePrimeagen (1:49)
Personally, I quit watching the Olympics in 2016
Casey Muratori (1:52)
Yeah.
Teej (1:53)
Did someone say hockey?
Casey Muratori (1:56)
Oh, yeah.
Trash (1:58)
I was like, what's happening? Oh, grats.
ThePrimeagen (1:59)
I'm surprised you haven't changed that background yet, Teej. Like you haven't started putting up different quotes.
Teej (2:04)
It's my whole wall. I can't change. It's there for real.
Trash (2:08)
It's not green screen.
ThePrimeagen (2:10)
And you could just erase it with an eraser in this definitely not a green screen background.
Teej (2:15)
Unfortunately, permanent marker.
Casey Muratori (2:17)
It really sucks.
ThePrimeagen (2:19)
So I had a friend who became an intern somewhere. It is very first day he wrote on the whiteboard in permanent marker.
Trash (2:25)
I'm guilty of that. No.
Teej (2:29)
Was it real work related or was it a penis?
ThePrimeagen (2:32)
Real work related.
Trash (2:33)
Okay, that's good.
ThePrimeagen (2:34)
In the next hour, coloring with the other ones and then erasing, because that's like the trick.
Teej (2:39)
Yeah.
ThePrimeagen (2:40)
Welcome to The Standup. Today we have an extremely special episode, because we have with us Teej, the legendary manager, Casey Muratori, legendary game programmer and Trash. And so with that in mind, we were going to talk about this recent drama that's been bubbling up on D compiling games and playing them, because it seems like right now, are we ready player one is in fact a question we could be asking all of ourselves, because now you're getting Super Mario and Elden Ring, you're getting Halo shooting Animal Crossing, you're getting everything mixed into everything. And this really is that future we all dreamed of as a kid. So the problem though, is that a lot of people are kind of crying foul on these things. We have podcasts coming out saying, oh no, these D comps, they totally suck. And then other people are saying it's not good. Some people are saying we have anti AI policies. Other people are saying it's just videos, it's fake. Some people are saying it's being done in such ways that are just impossible for anyone to actually enjoy. And so we figured we would want to talk all about this. We'll be talking about the Decomp Recompilation Revolution. We'll talk about should we read the code and specifically is no AI a great policy? And then lastly, which games do we wish to combine?
Casey Muratori (3:52)
Oh, I love it.
Trash (3:54)
Yeah. Ooh, that's a good one.
ThePrimeagen (3:55)
Yeah, I'm curious where we want to go with this. So we should just start with the Decomp Recomp Evolution slash backlash. Every game is now being mixed with every game and it seems to be happening at a really fast rate. Before all of this ever happened, it used to take years or an extended period of time, it's a group of people to be able to put together these emulators and then more on top of it, being able to actually decompile games and try to recreate them some sort of non-clean room version of it so that you could play Twilight Princess or play whatever you want to play and all that fun stuff and then be able to mod them. That was a huge aspect to all of this, is being able to mod the games, make it into the way you want. And so actually having Halo actually in Animal Crossing was like infinity impossible. And then mostly, yes, running on different hardware. You can't just have, you know, you can't have Twilight Princess just run on your PC because it was never created to do that.
