So, Esther chapter 4 tonight, we're in a series through the book of Esther, The Providence Of The Unseen God, the intervention, the loving care of the God that we cannot see in history and personally in our lives. And so here we are, Esther chapter 4 is really one of the pivotal chapters in the story of Esther, in the events there of Esther, where everything comes to a head. And we're going to see, okay, in the coming, but it's dependent upon, the test comes in Esther chapter 4 and chapter 5 And then we're going to see in the coming weeks, does God still work even in Persia? Does God still work even in that situation? And so Esther chapter 4 verse number 1, the Bible says, when Mordecai perceived all that was done. So that is all that Haman and the king had agreed to. So we'll review a little bit of that. When he perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city and cried with a loud and bitter cry. And came even before the king's gate, for none might enter into the king's gate, clothed with sackcloth. And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting and weeping and wailing, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes. So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved, and she sent Raymond to clothe Mordecai and to take away his sackcloth from him, but he received it not. Then called Esther for Haytack, one of the king's chamberlain whom he had pointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai to know what it was and why it was. So Haytack went forth to Mordecai on to the street of the city, which was before the king's gate, and Mordecai told him all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. Also, he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it unto Esther, and to declare it under her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king and make supplication unto him to make request before him for her people. Cat's got out of the bag there at that point. He says, for her people. And Haytack came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. Again, Esther spake unto Haytack and gave him commandment unto Mordecai, all the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces do know that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king's inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king should hold out the golden scepter that he may live. But I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
And they told Mordecai Esther's words. Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not, that with thyself thou shalt escape in the king's house more than all the Jews. For if thou altogether holest thy peace at this time, then there shall enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place. But thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed, and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade return Mordecai this answer, Go gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me. Neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I also and my maidens will fast likewise. So will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law. And if I perish, I perish. So Mordecai went his way and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
And so here is our title for tonight.
Accept God's role for your life. Accept God's role for your life. Recognize that God just may have placed you here for such a time as this. Let's pray and ask the Lord to help. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you tonight. Lord, I ask for your help and just simplicity. And but yet boldness of proclaiming your word. I pray that you would give clarity. I pray, Lord, that you would help us to understand, Lord, exactly what you want us to do. I pray that you would encourage us, that you would challenge us, Lord, that you would provoke us to do what you have called us to do. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
