And today, we get to hear from one in particular. I'm sure many of you probably know, but in case you don't, that's my dad. And he grew up around here. He's a bulldog just from right down the street. He graduated from Grandview High School.
Him and my mom got married a long time ago, and they've lived a lot of other places. And right now, he lives in St. Louis. But today, he has gifted, I'll say you, I'll let you in on this gift. But he's actually gifted me for Father's Day by him being here, and preaching this morning. Yeah, I'm super, I'm just as excited as you are. And so, it is a gift. He is a gift before he says anything, before he does anything. He knows this, which is probably why I shouldn't be the one doing this, because his presence just being near me just makes me like melt, and just so excited and feel very, just gifted. I looked this up. And you can fact check it, but if you chat GBT it, which is what I did, you're going to find the same thing. I found out that some 139 million babies were born in 1986 And if you're like, what is 1986 have to do with anything? It's the year that I was born.

I couldn't find how many babies were born on September 22nd, 1986 That is the day I was born, September 22nd, 1986 But if you do the math, if Kevin was here, he would do it because he thinks he's good at it. You would take 139 million and divide that by 365, the days of the year. I don't believe that year was a leap year. You would find that roughly on average that probably some 380, I think it was 1,000 babies were born on September 22nd, 1986
That's a lot of babies. But I was one of those babies that were born, that was one of those 381,000 babies that were born. But I got the best out on the planet.
Because I was the only baby born on September 22nd that got this guy in the room that took me home. So I think that's really stinking awesome.

So you are, I would say you're one of a kind, but I guess technically you're one of 381,000 kind. Because there were 381,000 other dads that day, but you were the only one that I got. And so thank you for that. And thank you for being here this morning. He is about to gift us with whatever God's been speaking to him. And he's gonna share that with us this morning.
Obviously, you know who the winner was in that transaction. So, like what prize, the carnival that she won to get me, is kind of the question I would have. But no, and she's also a math teacher, that's why she probably dialed in on that. But I'll say this, that my kids, probably the, well, not even probably, for sure, like the greatest gift my kids, my three biological kids gave me, was they gave me the freedom and the encouragement to love other kids. I got to work in high school and middle school ministry for the longest time, and they just like gave me that freedom, and didn't feel jealous, didn't feel bitter, weren't mad. They just, in fact, my youngest son, what at times he'd say, when I'd be yelling at him, he'd be like, dad, aren't there some other kids you can go love right now?
And as funny as that sounds, it is, it just means the world to me, because that's like life is all about relationships and experiences. And the relationships and experiences I had during the 10 years that we were here in Kansas City, working among high school and middle school students. In fact, my Father's Day gift to myself was I spent the last four days going around Kansas City and crashing in on some of the young people that I spent those 10 years with, surprising some and calling others, and they thought that it was the greatest thing. They didn't know I was doing that totally and completely selfish. I didn't get to see the Michael, but I did see his older, better looking sister. She was one of those. But anyway, I thought since we were going to be here on Father's Day and the fact that you all are going through a series called Stories We Thought We Knew, I really didn't have much choice than to dial in on a story that I know you're familiar with. You've read the scriptures at all and it has to do with Abraham, father Abraham, the father of the faithful coming out of the book of Genesis. And so we're going to be talking about him this morning, looking at his life and just for fun, looking at some of the craziest parts of his life so that we as fathers and also we as followers of Jesus can glean from his world and his life. Before I actually read the passage, I thought we would have, and I know this has been the tradition last couple of weeks, one of the young people here in the church is going to tell the story. So Kalani is about to upstage me tremendously.
