Welcome to the Go Get'em Podcast as we will talk about the final two games of the losing series to the Cardinals who had lost six consecutive series heading in. Yankees win the middle game, drop the two, including tonight's rubber match, and fall two out of three. But we do have a lot of other things to discuss. But overall, I mean, look, we know what it is. The Bats are atrocious as they score really one, the first game they score seven runs and manage to lose. That's what's frustrating. But they score seven in the first game. They score one tonight. They score two last night on home runs, on solo home runs. All of their runs pretty much via the home run as well on the first game. And they draw a walk with the bases loaded tonight, leave ten runners in stranded and running scoring position, O for ten with runners in scoring position. They continue to pitch. I mean, look, was was Warren good tonight? Five and a third, three runs, seven hits, one walk, five strikeouts. Was Warren particularly good? I thought early on Warren was okay, but it's impossible to be perfect. Like, the pitching has been so good, even tonight, Warren's their fifth starter right now, right? And when Rodin comes back and is healthy, he's not even in the rotation. So this is your fifth or sixth best starter. He gives you five and a third of three runs. That's what fifth starters do. And that's not to defend Warren because outside of the Cubs start, he's been not good for his last 15 or so starts. I'm not trying to defend him. But the point is, that's a fifth starter start. He managed to stay in the game, put zeros up on the board early, gave the offense every opportunity to score runs. They never do it. And ultimately, and then the bullpen comes in. And again, I mean, Castro, Hill and Blackburn, zero runs, two hits.
They pitched three and a third inning, three and two thirds innings of two hit baseball. Don't give up a run. They have four, with two walks mixed in, they put four runners on in three and two thirds.
The bullpen is fine. The pitching is fine. We know what it is. The offense doesn't score. Well, it's not some guy named Palante. He's got 12, you know, he's 12 and 6 on the season with like a three, four year A. Not to defend the offense. I don't want to, but when we say some guy, that's not fair. Like, I know you might not have heard of him or we here on the podcast don't know him that well, pitching in St. Louis, but he's not a terrible pitcher. But should you score one run off of him? He went five and a third, three hits, one run. I mean, should you do better than that against him? Of course, of course. I'm not, I'm just saying when you say he's a no-namer, I mean, he's having a decent season. He's arguably their best pitcher or one of their best pitchers. So, but that doesn't matter. The offense stinks, we know it. And look, the guys who've come here are actually good. We'll get to the George Lombard, which should be the lead, quite honestly. Tampa Bay wins four and a half back in the division.
I didn't even, again, I stay away from my phone when I watch the game because I'm behind and I'm catching up. I'm assuming the Red Sox won because they don't lose. They won. They won. So now it's tied in the lost column with the Boston Red Sox. I think they're now a game and a half up in the standings, but tied in the lost column with the Boston Red Sox.
Now again, we know what they're down, so I don't expect to win that much. This is the first series loss since the Dodger series. Again, they went into Philadelphia. They're winning as many games as they can win with this lousy offense. Should they have won the series? Of course. I'm not trying to say they shouldn't have. They should have won this.
It's not even all or nothing offense. Guys, we're missing the point here. It's not even an all or nothing offense right now. They're nothing. There's no all to it. It's an all or nothing offense when it's Judge in there and Stanton in there and Bellinger in there, and this is the team they've built and they don't manufacture runs. That's a conversation for some. This isn't a good offense. The players in it aren't good. It's not like they're home run hitters where it's all or nothing. It's nothing. The hitters aren't good enough. They try to do things and then we get annoyed when they get picked off or thrown out on the bases because they're trying to do things. Like today, they got on base, but it's not all or nothing. They don't hit.
