The Carton Show, Big Mac, we have some breaking news regarding the New York Yankees right now.

Chris McMonigle (0:06)

We do.

Craig Carton (0:07)

A decision has apparently been made on whether or not Aaron Boone is coming back as the manager of the New York Yankees. Big Mac, do you wanna take a guess if he's coming back, or if the Yankees have decided after nine years without a championship, despite having a great year of managing this particular Yankee team, that he is coming back for the final year of his contract?

Chris McMonigle (0:36)

Yeah, I think everybody's guess would be...

Craig Carton (0:38)

I just care about your guess, Big Mac.

Chris McMonigle (0:40)

My guess is he's coming back. I would be stunned if he isn't.

Craig Carton (0:42)

Final answer?

Chris McMonigle (0:43)

Yes.

Craig Carton (0:45)

Well, my friend...

Chris McMonigle (0:46)

Really?

Craig Carton (0:48)

Aaron Boone, you have a guess. Pete, do you wanna take a guess? I know the answer. Alright, then you cannot take a guess. I appreciate your honesty there.

Aaron Boone is coming back to be the manager of the New York Yankees for one more year.

Chris McMonigle (1:08)

One more year.

Craig Carton (1:09)

That's what's left on his contract.

Chris McMonigle (1:13)

I don't know if they haven't announced that they know for a fact he hasn't signed the new contract because typically you don't love the idea of coaches being out on a lame duck contract. I would be stunned as much as I would have been stunned if he didn't come back. I'd be just as much stunned if they give him another contract this year. I think he's got one more chance to win a championship.

Craig Carton (1:30)

Yeah.

Chris McMonigle (1:30)

And then they will move on if he does not.

I think this is it. He's got his one last chance. It was the last year of his contract.

Not a lot of great candidates out there. I know I can hear Yankee fans screaming it doesn't matter anybody but him. I get it. Look, even I have to admit, like this was an awful performance. It was an awful performance and a team that just continues to give them in the postseason. It's harder and harder.

Craig Carton (1:55)

Does it make you feel any better than Tampa as a game away from getting to the World Series or not?

Chris McMonigle (1:58)

No.

Craig Carton (1:59)

Okay. My point is you lost to the team that gets there.

Chris McMonigle (2:03)

No, I get it. I know that was my thought growing up. As a Yankee fan, I'd be like, I know they got beaten the Angels but the Angels go on to win the World Series.

Craig Carton (2:11)

That means we could have won the World Series.

I think makes it more frustrating actually. If Tampa wins the World Series, you got to be beside yourself.

Chris McMonigle (2:19)

Yeah, I'm not happy at all. I'm not happy no matter who wins. I won't be happy if Cleveland wins.

Craig Carton (2:23)

But you're getting your manager back for one more run at it.

Chris McMonigle (2:26)

One more run at it with Aaron Boone. That's it.

Craig Carton (2:29)

Aaron Boone's coming back.

Chris McMonigle (2:30)

I mean, look, we all know this. The owner has no appetite to get rid of the general manager. That's for sure.

SPEAKER_3 (2:35)

Right, I mean, his cast is coming back awesome.

Chris McMonigle (2:37)

I would be stunned. How do you announce Boone's coming back and leak it to, again, Pete Caldera who covers the Yankees for the Bergen record.

He was the first one to have it. How do you let this leak? Now Jack Curry has confirmed it and a bunch of different people have confirmed it. How do you let it leak Aaron Boone's stay in, but you're moving on from Brian Cashman? It wouldn't make any sense. How do you bring in a new GM and say, here's your nine-year manager you're stuck with for a year? Like, you just wouldn't make any sense. I'll do one better. So Brian Cashman's coming back. The owner has no appetite.

Craig Carton (3:03)

So who gets credit for breaking this originally? Who broke the story?

Chris McMonigle (3:06)

Pete Caldera.

Craig Carton (3:07)

Pete Caldera, Bergen record, you said? Yes. All right, and then Jack Curry of Yes? Yes. Confirmed that he hears the same thing, yes?

Chris McMonigle (3:14)

Correct.

Craig Carton (3:15)

If you're Michael K, doesn't that piss you off a little bit?

Chris McMonigle (3:19)

Why?

Craig Carton (3:19)

Like, I'm the voice of the Yankees.
