On today's episode of The Ringer Fantasy Football Show, we go over all the games for week four. The Steelers traded Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys, and Mike Tomlin has a Minecraft city. All that after the break.
This episode is presented by Verizon. Let me tell you all about Verizon's new simplicity plan. You get one plan, one price, just $30 a line per month, even for a single line. Welcome to The Ringer Fantasy Football Show. My name is Danny Heifetz and I'm joined by Danny Kelly and Craig Horlbeck. We're going over all the games for week four of the NFL season, fantasy football, but we have to start with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Craig, where do we start? That you traded away Joey Porter Jr, your best corner back for a pick that's not even in this year's draft, or do you want to start with Mike Tomlin built an entire Minecraft city?
Craig Horlbeck (2:21)
Let's start with the more depressing one, which is the Steelers trading Joey Porter Jr. Mike Tomlin thing I found to be quite joyful actually when I watched it.
Steelers lost this trade. The Steelers traded Joey Porter Jr. to Dallas for a 2028 second round pick and a 2027 sixth round pick. We've been doing buy lows and sell highs last few weeks. Steelers kind of sold low.
Not that Joey Porter is worse now or anything like that, but they just negotiated this so terribly and they wanted to try to get like two firsts from him six months ago. And now they got a 2028 second. They're giving all their players to the Cowboys. They've given the Cowboys George Pickens, Joey Porter Jr. and Broderick Jones, which is pretty funny. I mean, look, this was like an inherent, do I think Joey Porter Jr. is like a top five corner in the league? I don't. Do I think he's worth 33 million a year, which is what he wanted? I don't. And it seemed like it was an issue over guaranteed money and they offered him like 27 and he said no. And then the Steelers have this rule that they don't negotiate with terrorists, which they don't negotiate during the season when the season starts. So this was just a really awkward situation. And now like a beloved family in the Steelers franchise, Joey Porter Jr. is leaving and it's awkward and it's weird. And I think it's really funny that he's also not going to sign an extension with Dallas immediately. He's just going to play the season out and maybe get a franchise tag and like it's kind of just like the George Pickens things again and he just wanted to leave. And I think the Steelers kind of bungled it. And 2028 second is pretty mediocre. And like they're worse now, is my opinion.
Danny Heifetz (3:53)
And again, the Steelers play on Thursday football tonight versus the Browns. We are recording this before that game. Obviously, if the Steelers lost, that would just be a hilarious end to an incredible 24 hours for them. DK, what did you think of the Joey Porter Jr. trade?
Danny Kelly (4:06)
The first thought that came to my mind was at what point did the Steelers become one of the worst franchises in the NFL? I don't know if that's overreacting. It's probably overreacting. But everybody wants to leave. They don't keep their guys.
