Five, four, three, two, one. Motherfucking world traveler, Ari Shaffir.
Ari Shaffir (0:11)
That's such a nice way to start.
SPEAKER_3 (0:12)
Dude.
Joe Rogan (0:14)
You did one of the most puzzling and fascinating and admirable things any of my friends has ever done. You checked out.
Ari Shaffir (0:22)
Yeah.
Joe Rogan (0:22)
You checked out for four months. You really checked out. You got rid of your phone. You didn't answer any emails.
I am going to disappear for four months.
Ari Shaffir (0:33)
Yeah.
Joe Rogan (0:33)
You didn't even give a time frame.
Ari Shaffir (0:35)
No.
Joe Rogan (0:35)
You just said, I'm just going to go do this.
Ari Shaffir (0:37)
I said like one to three-ish.
SPEAKER_3 (0:40)
I don't know.
Ari Shaffir (0:41)
Maybe two. I don't know. Just we'll see.
Joe Rogan (0:44)
Did you get the inspiration from the Henry Rollins podcast?
Ari Shaffir (0:46)
No, I was already going to do it. Yeah, but he said, come see me in December. I think he was having shows at Largo. And I was like, oh, I'm already going to be. I think I'll be gone by then.
I was waiting until I finished off the work I had to do. Do my special.
Joe Rogan (1:01)
Right.
Ari Shaffir (1:04)
You know, finish up a season of that show.
Just like, just like get it, get it. So I'm not like just leaving, I'm not chappelling anybody.
Joe Rogan (1:11)
Yeah.
Ari Shaffir (1:11)
You know?
Joe Rogan (1:12)
Right. Chappelling anybody, it's a verb.
Ari Shaffir (1:14)
Yeah.
Joe Rogan (1:16)
Dude, that Rollins podcast you did was one of my all time favorite ones of yours.
Ari Shaffir (1:20)
It's great. It inspired me when I was out there, though.
Joe Rogan (1:22)
Your podcast is great.
Ari Shaffir (1:23)
Thanks, buddy.
Joe Rogan (1:24)
It's really good. It's really good.
Ari Shaffir (1:26)
You like the format? It's fucking great.
SPEAKER_5 (1:28)
It's great.
Joe Rogan (1:29)
I love your intros. You're fucking cooking onions and just talking.
SPEAKER_5 (1:34)
It's so raw.
Joe Rogan (1:36)
It's a really good podcast, man. You've done an amazing job with it. I like your music selection when you bring in the guests. Yeah.
No, you do a great job with it. Whenever the guest comes up, I was like, okay, what kind of fucking song is he going to play?
Ari Shaffir (1:49)
Yeah. Ingram said it once. I did one with him about having diabetes. And he was like, did you pour some sugar on me at the beginning of the podcast about diabetes?
You got to have something like that goes.
Joe Rogan (2:05)
That's hilarious. Rick Ingram is one of the most underrated guys out there.
I've seen him kill at the Comedy Store lately.
Ari Shaffir (2:13)
He kills hard enough where people have always said, can you not put me on after him? He's one of those guys.
Joe Rogan (2:19)
He's a funny dude, very funny dude. Good guy, too.
Ari Shaffir (2:22)
Yeah. But yeah, that Rollins thing, I did use some of that while I was out there. When people say, like, what are you doing out here?
I tried a few times. I'm like, I'm here to meet you.
And it just gets a conversation going. Because they want to know. I think with him it was more his celebrity booth. It's just like, you're white.
SPEAKER_3 (2:42)
What are you doing here? Right.
What are you doing here?
Ari Shaffir (2:46)
In some small town in Nowheresville.
Joe Rogan (2:48)
Did you feel threatened anywhere?
Ari Shaffir (2:52)
Any sort of threatened, this is a good question, any sort of threatening I felt was just me. It wasn't real. It was me looking at people that don't look like me and going, oh, I'm scared. You know, there are others.
And then you find out like, like Myanmar is 90-something percent Buddhist. Yeah, it's a massive, massive part of their culture.
Joe Rogan (3:17)
Is that where you went first?
Ari Shaffir (3:18)
Mm-hmm, yeah.
Joe Rogan (3:19)
Why did you pick that place?
Ari Shaffir (3:20)
Best weather. Oh. I got my ticket the day before, so I just didn't want to go somewhere where it's gonna re-rain in.
So Myanmar had 10 days of clear, and I was like, headed to Myanmar, I guess. Yeah, it was great, though.
Joe Rogan (3:35)
So what do you, like, what do you do? Like, how do you set this up? Do you set up, like...
Ari Shaffir (3:40)
I picked a region.
Joe Rogan (3:41)
A region?
Ari Shaffir (3:42)
Yeah, a cake now between South America and Southeast Asia.
