How Long Gone, recording and process. It's a beautiful day here in East Hampton. Jason, the birds are fucking chirping. The breeze is breezing, the leaves are green. But I would rather be inside looking at all of that podcasting, because I'm already bored out of my fucking skull. How are you feeling today?

I'm over here in Rustic, Deer Valley, Utah.
It's a beautiful, beautiful area. There's some little kids practicing archery outside right now. I'm by the fireplace, had a little, a little hotel coffee and just kind of hanging.

I mean, look, we're both in no place to complain.

My tools. And also, I will be working all day, so it's hard to be bored and working. But I guess I can't remember the last time I was bored, actually. Maybe when I was like 11

That's insane. There's nothing to do. I mean, I just want to work every hour of the day and I do my best. But then once that's over, I'm not really sure what the vibe is out there. You know what I mean?

**Jason Stewart** (2:00)
I do my best. Wait, when you said once the work is over?

**Chris Black** (2:03)
Yeah, like once it's seven o'clock or whatever. You know what I mean? It's like, okay, no one-

**Jason Stewart** (2:07)
I was just going to quote Daft Punk, work is never over.

I'm saying once people stop responding to me, you know what I mean? In social or professional settings, I feel like I got to wrap it up. You know what I'm saying? It feels like a wrap it up moment for me. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah, exactly.
That's when you know it's time to pack it up. There's nothing left. If the people aren't responding, who are you talking to? Shouting into the void, as they say.

**Jason Stewart** (2:33)
Wait, well, so that means you're done with your book?

**Chris Black** (2:35)
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.

**Jason Stewart** (2:40)
No, I mean, it's hard. There's so many things where we have the immediate work in front of us, quote unquote, the whirlwinds that some of our grustlers will talk about.
And then there's the deep work that needs to be done. And it's so easy to not do that deep work. It's very easy to be like, I'm gonna do this tomorrow. And then when tomorrow comes, you're like, I'm gonna look at Instagram stories.

Well, you know, I totally, and I think there's a few people that should have looked, we were talking about Vince Staples earlier.
Big Vince should have kept looking at Instagram stories because I saw people talking about this album he put out, kind of defending it, being like, oh, you don't, you know, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And it is some of the worst music ever created. And that's a person who's like, Jason, I've listened to more power, violence, screamo, seven inches than you could imagine. And this is so much worse than that. It's staggering, it's shocking that Loma Vista Recording Company allowed this to be released into the wild. I'm honestly shocked. Like, I thought people were being stupid. Like, I thought people were being extreme. And then I finally listened and boy, was I wrong.

**Jason Stewart** (3:48)
I mean, what do we do in this situation where the person and the personality is so beloved and enjoyable? You know, it's a resource that needs to be protected. I mean, it's not just him and a microphone and three people laughing at him and him just talking shit and philosophizing and everything in between.
