Believe it, yeah, it's better.

Joe Rogan (0:02)

Five, four, three, two.

Kapow, and we're live, Shirley. How are you?

Shirley Manson (0:10)

I'm feeling alive.

Joe Rogan (0:12)

You look alive.

Shirley Manson (0:13)

Thanks, so do you.

Joe Rogan (0:14)

Does anybody ever ask you, are you really only happy when it rains?

Shirley Manson (0:17)

All the time.

Joe Rogan (0:17)

Is that annoying?

Shirley Manson (0:19)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (0:19)

I would imagine so. I shouldn't have done it. I couldn't have helped myself.

Shirley Manson (0:22)

It was a little beneath you, Joe, but that's okay. I'll forgive you.

Joe Rogan (0:25)

It was a little, I panicked. I didn't know how to start, I never do.

Shirley Manson (0:29)

Well, at least you didn't ask me, are you really related? Are you really, you know, the sister of Marilyn Manson is another one too.

Joe Rogan (0:35)

Oh, is that one that comes up?

Shirley Manson (0:36)

That comes up a lot.

Joe Rogan (0:37)

Yeah, that guy's a freak. Have you ever met him?

Shirley Manson (0:39)

I love him.

Joe Rogan (0:40)

He's an odd dude.

Shirley Manson (0:42)

He's, you think? Oh. I was kind of shocked by how normal he is.

Joe Rogan (0:47)

Oh, he's very smart. Very nice.

Shirley Manson (0:48)

He's really smart and really, I thought really forthright.

Joe Rogan (0:51)

Yeah.

Shirley Manson (0:52)

I appreciated him. I loved him actually. I was crazy about him.

Joe Rogan (0:56)

Well, doesn't that in and of itself make him a freak?

Shirley Manson (0:58)

Yeah, I guess.

Joe Rogan (0:58)

In this world?

Shirley Manson (0:59)

I guess so.

Joe Rogan (0:59)

And we were just talking out there about how many people are peeled up and that this world.

Shirley Manson (1:04)

Well, we were also talking about people who can't tell the truth. That's maybe even more weird.

Joe Rogan (1:08)

Yeah, we were talking about transracial people. You know the one, folks. We don't have to say her name. You know that chick.

That one who thinks she's, and then that dude who also did it. There's a lot of weird people out there. But also Jamie, Jamie lies about being an Indian apparently.

Shirley Manson (1:28)

A Native American, right?

Joe Rogan (1:30)

Yeah, that's not a funny thing. You can't...

Indian is actually kind of offensive to some people now. Where it was like standard for a long time.

Shirley Manson (1:38)

Well, I'm ashamed to say, when I first came to America 20 years ago, I always, because it was the way we were brought up, we referred to Native Americans as red Indians. And every time I would say red Indian, everybody in my band would be going, you can't say that.

You've got to stop that. And I'm like, oh God, I'm so sorry, but you know, I was 30 years in or whatever. I was so used to saying it.

Joe Rogan (2:01)

Oh, is that a Scotland thing?

Shirley Manson (2:02)

Scottish thing, yeah.

Joe Rogan (2:03)

You say red Indian?

Shirley Manson (2:04)

We used to say red Indian. That has now been completely changed. But back then, 20 odd years ago, yeah, we always referred to Native Americans as red Indian.

Joe Rogan (2:13)

Yeah, I mean, you can't say red people, but you can say white people. You can definitely say black people, but you can't say yellow people.

Shirley Manson (2:20)

Yeah, it's complicated.

I get it. It's, you know.

Joe Rogan (2:25)

If you didn't know, it would be super, like if you were just learning this language, like if you came from China or something like that. You'd be baffled.

Shirley Manson (2:31)

Yes.

I spend my life baffled, though. That's okay. I just go with it now.

Joe Rogan (2:36)

Good for you.

Shirley Manson (2:36)

It's okay to be baffled.

Joe Rogan (2:38)

Good for you. That is a good way to approach it.

Shirley Manson (2:41)

Yeah, well, it's made me happier, I'll tell you that.

Joe Rogan (2:43)

It's definitely happier than trying to control everything. A lot of people that go down that rabbit hole, that's not a good rabbit hole to go down.

Shirley Manson (2:49)

No, but I think controlling things, it's fear driven, right?

Joe Rogan (2:52)

Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely a lot of it.

Shirley Manson (2:54)

I think I'm too old to be fearful, I think.

Joe Rogan (2:57)

Really?

Shirley Manson (2:57)

A wee bit, yeah. Yeah?

Joe Rogan (3:00)

But you're like a, see, there's a certain thing that happens to people in show business when they get to a certain age.

Either they feel like it's slipping away, or they feel comfortable. You seem like a comfortable person.
