Today on this What Would Glen Do episode, we've got a fun one today, a long time listener of the show, and we're gonna go through her and her partner's details and see if we can get into some trouble. If you are new to the show, welcome. This is what I would do. So we'll go through, I'll tell the person what I would do in their situation. If you're outraged, if you're like, oh my gosh, you're an idiot. Why did you say that Glen? Well, it's just what I would do. And don't worry everyone, I'll drive home tonight and think, why did I say that? Like there ain't no perfection here. We're just out here trying to have a go, digging a hole, you know, just having a dig, dig, dig. And look, we're gonna have some fun.
If you do like these types of episodes only, we've got a dedicated podcast feed called WWGD with Glen James and that's on Apple, Spotify.
Let us know anything throughout the episode on YouTube or in the Spotify comments. It's really fun to hear what people would do in our listener's situation. This episode is brought to you by Sphere Home Loans. We are big believers in mortgage brokers. Don't just go to a bank. I was talking to someone the other day and their brother was like, oh, I'm going to go get a loan. And she's like, go to my broker. And he's like, oh, I was just going to go to a bank. Well, what if you go to that bank and they go, no, we can't help you. You're not going to get a home. But if you go to Sphere Home Loans, they'll look at all the banks and lenders and present you with appropriate options and help you get into your first home, your next home, an investment property, all that stuff. You can head to sphere.com.au or Sphere Home Loans. I don't even know what the website is. Just Google Sphere Home Loans. I think it's sphere.com.au, whatever. But we're going to have a good chat today.
Our guest today, she's going by an alias and that alias is Rachelle. Hi Rachelle. Welcome to What Would Glen Do?
SPEAKER_2 (2:02)
Thanks Glen. Very excited to be here.
Glen James (2:04)
Awesome. I love that. Well, we're going to have a chat. We're going to do it right now. My name is Glen James.
Before we get into it, this show is general advice only. I've got a license to provide that advice. Full details can be found in the show description. My name is Glen James, former Financial Advisor. I host this show and a show called Retire Right. I've got some books, the award-winning Quick-Start Guide to Investing and the Quick-Start Guide to Your First Property available where good books are sold or in the description. If you're new here, welcome. If you're in old hand, welcome to M3. Let's get into it right now.
Okay, in true form, we'll run through, we'll get some basic details. I'll clarify some stuff, then I'll deliver my verdict with what I would do. So what would you like to ask me, Rachelle?
SPEAKER_2 (3:02)
So I guess I'm really looking for some direction. Well, I should say we, my partner and I are both really looking for some direction, probably for what we should focus on over the next 12 months. So we've got a couple of investment properties between us. We've got some money in shares. We're thinking about should we be putting more in super? We've got an overseas trip next year, and we probably want to buy our house that we like to live in next year, as well. So there's a bit going on. We really want to ask you, I guess, what we should really be prioritizing, if we should be trying to keep one of the properties and stretch ourselves for a bit, or if we should just sell them both.
Yeah, really keen to hear your thoughts on a number of things.
Glen James (4:06)
Yeah, cool.
And what I'm going to do, let's just go into the base information. Just tell me what your age is, what you do for work.
SPEAKER_2 (4:20)
Yeah. So I'm 30
Glen James (4:22)
Yeah.
SPEAKER_2 (4:23)
I work in local government in the sport and recreation unit.
Glen James (4:29)
Awesome. And are you working full time?
SPEAKER_2 (4:31)
Yeah, full time.
Glen James (4:33)
What type of earnings do you have?
SPEAKER_2 (4:35)
So 120,000 plus super.
Glen James (4:39)
And are you paid fortnightly or monthly?
SPEAKER_2 (4:42)
Yeah, fortnightly.
Glen James (4:43)
And what amount goes into your bank account each fortnight?
