**Glen James** (0:06)
Welcome to another episode of What Would Glen Do. If you are new, my name is Glen James. I have listeners of the Money Money Money show right in. I have a look at their stuff. Oh yeah, that could be interesting to have a chat about. We get them on the show, and I go through their current situation in detail. And it's detailed, but it's a bit clinical, because I just want to know where we're at right now.
We'll find out what they would want me to, what I would do in their situation. And that's a really important thing there.
This is what Glen would do. I am Glen, my photo is on the front of this show.
If your view differs from what I would do, that is perfectly fine. This is just hypotheticals. Sometimes we move fast and I go to bed at night thinking, oh, I should have asked that. Or as soon as we press stop, I am like, oh, I forgot to ask about that inheritance of $8 million that is material. So look, this is just entertainment and we can hopefully learn some stuff along the way and get pervy on other people's financial situations. This episode is brought to you by Sphere Home Loans. Sphere Home Loans support the shows. If you are looking for a mortgage broker anywhere around Australia and you don't have one, reach out to Sphere Home Loans. There's no cost out of pocket to use a mortgage broker. They're enumerated by the banks. It's not a higher interest rate. It's sometimes quite lower actually than going direct to a bank. And they'll look at your personal situation. They'll look at your goals. They'll do some scenarios and present the most appropriate options to you. And then they will help you get that mortgage put to bed. And all that is covered by the banks paying a mortgage broker. That's how the mortgage brokers work. So if you want to get a new home, a new old home, sideways, upsize, downsize, downsize, all that, do all the home stuff, you can reach out to Sphere Home Loans anywhere you get your Googling.
Anyway, we're going to get into it. Today I am joined by Katie. Katie, welcome to What Would Glen Do?
**Katie** (2:11)
Hi, thank you.
**Glen James** (2:13)
No worries. Now, what would you like to ask moi?
**Katie** (2:18)
I guess, like everyone, it's just that desire to check in with another brain and with another brain that knows a bit more than mine about how I'm travelling. I'm 43 I love the idea of being able to have some kind of shift in my work at 60 I don't necessarily need to retire, but it would be lovely to be able to be paid less or work part-time or something like that.
Whilst also kind of balancing the final years that I have with my child at home, because he is now 15 So I also want to be able to live and go to Japan and things like that, and try and get the balance right.
I suppose there was also a follow-up question that I had because, like everyone in these sessions, it's thinking about the really annoying, boring stuff, like the wheels and the insurance. And because of my personal health circumstances this year, I'm really wondering if income protection is actually going to be a remotely affordable option for me, and kind of having a conversation around that. As someone who's now had cancer diagnosis, or fine and treated and managed and hopefully cancer-free now. But yeah, what kind of impact that might have, because that's never something that I've actually taken action on.
**Glen James** (3:50)
Yeah, well, we're going to talk about it right now. Thank you so much, Katie. Let's get into what would Glen do right now.

Okay, Katie, thank you for that snapshot of where you're at. So good to hear that your sounds like you through that cancer diagnosis. How long was, how long ago was the diagnosis and treatment like where are we at on that timeline?
**Katie** (4:55)
Yep, so I was diagnosed in January, had pretty major surgery in March. And so I'm still in the recovery period, but no nasty treatments or anything else like that to come.
