Five, four, three, two, one. Dr. Rhonda Patrick, hello. Welcome back.

You got a big, fat book of notes over there.

Rhonda Patrick (0:15)

It's like, it's something I use, like before I'm giving a talk or something like that, where I like to, something about handwriting things helps me remember.

Joe Rogan (0:30)

I do that before shows. If you looked at my notebook and if you ever thought that I actually wrote in my notebook, you'd think I'm a crazy person because I'm writing the same thing over and over again, like, I'll work, no play makes Jack a tall boy.

I just like before a set, what I do is I just write out the key things that I wanted to work on, and I'll write them out over and over again. So, like, I'll have a hundred page notebook, and it's like a hundred pages of like half of it's the same stuff over and over again.

Rhonda Patrick (0:55)

Yeah, I'm kind of the same way, like, I'll write out things like that are in more detail, and then like you said, I'll like write just like a cue, you know. Well, like, it's different when you're giving a talk, at least like in academia, like a PowerPoint talk, you have a slide, and the slide cues like a couple of minutes of talk. So you've got like, it helps you remember what you're going to talk about.

Joe Rogan (1:17)

Yeah, that'd help for comedy.

That's probably a good idea. I should have a slideshow, you know, like that would actually be a really good idea for like particular points where you could show that you weren't lying, like, look, this is a real thing, you know.

Rhonda Patrick (1:30)

Right, yeah, you have like a reference there.

Joe Rogan (1:32)

Because there's a couple of things that I'm talking about in my new set where I have to, I have to reassure people that I'm not making this up because it's so ridiculous, you know, and like one of them was this woman who posed as a high school student. She was a 25-year-old police officer, super attractive, and she posed as a high school student and convinced a young boy to sell her marijuana and then arrested him.

Rhonda Patrick (1:59)

So it was just an experiment?

Joe Rogan (2:00)

No, it was a sting operation. And he was a regular kid. He was an honor roll kid.

And now he's a felon.

Rhonda Patrick (2:08)

That is crazy.

Joe Rogan (2:08)

Yeah, there it is.

Teen falls in love with undercover cop and marijuana sting gets arrested. Yeah.

So this is one of them. I would love to be able to put that up and go see.

Rhonda Patrick (2:19)

See?

Joe Rogan (2:20)

Because you could, I guess you could just make stuff up if you wanted to, you know.

Rhonda Patrick (2:23)

But isn't that what comedians do? They make stuff.

Joe Rogan (2:25)

I mean, you can.

Rhonda Patrick (2:26)

A lot.

Joe Rogan (2:27)

But if you made something up like, hey, there was a story in the news and you just made it up, that sounds crazy. I guess who cares if it's funny. You know, people just come to laugh.

Rhonda Patrick (2:34)

But yeah, I guess you're right. People like comedians usually make up personal stories.

Joe Rogan (2:38)

Yeah.

Rhonda Patrick (2:38)

But sometimes they say it's true. And I'm like, it's so outrageous. Is it really true? Like, I don't know, because it's just so funny, you know, like some of the stories that some of these comedians tell. And I'm just like, how can this be true? They said it was true, but it's like, are they? Is that part of comedy? Can you do that?

Joe Rogan (2:55)

He definitely can. My friend Dom Arera has a really funny joke about that. He goes, he's a true story. He goes, hey, how about you just make something up that's funny?

You know, like it doesn't have to be true, buddy.

Rhonda Patrick (3:05)

Right. But then they say it's true. So it's kind of like messing with you because the whole time they're doing their bit, you're like, is that really true? Because that's fucking hilarious.

Joe Rogan (3:15)

Sometimes it's true. Sometimes it's not. I guess it depends. Depends on the person.

Rhonda Patrick (3:19)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (3:19)

But I assume everything in your notebook is true.

Rhonda Patrick (3:21)

Well, I hope so. You know, the other thing that helps me, like, so this helps, you know, writing it down helps me, but also there's the running.

Running, like, helps. So actually, this was very interesting because a study just came out not long ago showing that if you, so if you run before, you're going to learn something, and you want to, like, let's say you want to, like, you know, do something short-term recall. So you're going to go up on stage and say something, you know, say a skit or whatever.
