Erin, you don't know this, but there's a few women in my life that are anticipating this conversation. Actually, my wife is one of them, my sister is another, and then our friend Kelly. Kelly, if you're listening out there, hello, I know you're waiting for this episode. We were actually talking about it last night in preparation.
Erin is an astrologer. She's been around Bitcoin for many years now at this point. I am one of those males who has a wife and a sister who are deep into astrology, and they're always talking about it with each other. And then every once in a while, my sister will send me a text like, this is you, I'm a Gemini. And I've always been like, arms length, like, yeah, this is cool, and sort of describes me, but not going to fall too deep down the astrology rabbit hole. But we met in Vegas and had a great conversation at a dinner with a couple of friends. And we decided then that you were going to come on the show, and particularly at this point in time, because there's a lot going on in your world. And so I guess starting at what the hell is astrology? Why should anybody care? And even if you don't care, why should you listen to this episode?

Yeah, thanks for having me. I threw a mutual friend, I heard about you and he basically was like, if you meet Marty, you have to talk to him because you guys have so much in common. And that was like exactly what happened. We just had such a great discussion. And yeah, I think some people are kind of put off by me being an astrologer. I actually call myself a Bitcoin astrologer. That's my Twitter bio. I just kind of like go for it, just to get it out there right off the bat. But you know, a lot of people are pretty ignorant about astrology. I say that as like a neutral term, not as a derisive term. They probably associate astrology with daily horoscopes in the newspaper. Maybe they think astrology is witchcraft, like there's kind of different associations. And you know, astrology is thousands of years old. It's the first sort of attempt to understand universal human archetypes and the timing and cycles of the human experience. And so it makes sense if you think about being an ancient person, looking up into the sky and seeing that a couple of the stars are moving around in cycles that are not quite predictable, like they don't go in a straight line and the same rate all the time. Sometimes they move backwards. Sometimes they conjunct with each other.
The ancients would find this really fascinating and try to interpret something that's coming from the heavens from it, right? And so that's what puts astrology as kind of the precursor to a lot of the major religions, is that it was sort of this myth-making sort of divination, making meaning of things type of study that predated by thousands of years, many of the religions. And so astrology is like not antagonistic to religion. That's something I always like to say is like, you know, not witchcraft, all of the major religions are okay with astrology. They don't like if you start to like, try to manipulate reality around your understanding of the stars. But it's one of these practices that just is kind of like, yeah, it's mythology and it's trying to make meaning of experiences and of the timing of things. So I came to astrology through astronomy. I was like a hardcore materialist, atheist, like did not believe in anything woo-woo, and I was working in astronomy. And just because I was looking at planets all the time, that kind of awakened me to just feeling something about the planets. I just thought they were magical. I thought they were beautiful. And it also made it very easy for me to learn astrology very quickly, because I already knew the motions of planetary objects. And so astrology was basically like, I had a conversation with someone who kind of sparked my interest. And then I went down the rabbit hole and that ended up becoming what I ended up being called to do. Like I don't work in astronomy anymore. I'm now like a full-time astrologer.
