Thanks to Raycon for sponsoring! We need this show right now. I have always believed that music is the universal language, it is the thread that weaves our entire civilization together. Songs serve as hallmarks of our history and as the checkpoints of our lives. Think about it.

I'm telling you, we need this show right now more than ever. You know, I've always believed that music is the universal language. It is the thread that weaves our entire civilization together.

The songs serve as hallmarks of our personal histories and as the checkpoints of our lives.

Think about it. Songs are the closest thing we have to a time machine. They transport us back to those moments we yearn to experience again and again.

In times of adversity, in our darkest hours, great music can motivate us to rise above anything. Today, I'm going to count down my seven picks for the stories of songs that have rescued someone in times of distress, literally saving lives, including the story of two men trapped in an underground mining disaster who survived in large part thanks to an iPod loaded with rock music from one specific band. I'll tell you the band. And then one song and his Milk Carton inspired music video became a powerful crime-solving campaign, saved dozens of missing teams around the world. But our countdown starts with the legendary NBA player who sat in his truck with a loaded weapon ready to take his own life until one song started playing and saved his life. He went on to win three consecutive NBA championships. Let's find out the song.

Hey, music junkies. Today, I'm doing a special precursor to a documentary series that we're actually working on called Song Save Us and it involves you. It's a chance for you to meet the greatest bands and artists out there by telling your story to them about how one of their songs has changed your life or saved your life or an experience like that. You know, find out how you can be involved at the end of this. But today, I wanted to start out with some stories about songs that will literally save people's lives. All right, on this edition of Stories from the Past, at number seven, we start with a song that I know means a lot to people, including one of the NBA's most notorious players who once sat in a truck with a load of weapon, ready to take his life. He was distraught and sobbing, and he put on his cassette of Pearl Jam's 10, and then a song played and it changed his life. So who was the NBA star and what was the song? Well, you might know him by his nickname The Worm, by his flamboyant hairstyles. I'm talking about five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman. The man was a magnet for controversy during his career for sure, but whether you loved him or hated him, you can't deny the man played with passion.

SPEAKER_1 (3:53)

Hey, Dennis, should I change my dress?

SPEAKER_2 (3:55)

Let me know when he opens. He's gonna set a back screen on me.

SPEAKER_5 (3:58)

He set that screen right there, so when he opens up, it gets hold of him.

SPEAKER_3 (4:03)

If you have to switch out, switch out.

SPEAKER_5 (4:05)

Now, as far as his backstory goes, Dennis Rodman grew up without one thing he needed most, his parents.
