Biggest mover of sleep as far as getting healthy and better sleep is consistency.

If you can get to bed according to what your chronotype would dictate, and we help you find that by looking at your past sleep data and when you got the highest sleep scores based on when you went to bed. If you're consistent with when you go to bed and when you wake up, that is going to give you the highest quality sleep day after day after day. I can actually predict what my heart rate is going to be shown by OURA or by how much carbohydrates and protein I eat. I don't think you can get back from sleep that like it once you had short nights, it's done, you know, either take drugs or do anything is bad for your brain over and over and over again. So chronic sleep deprivation might be like an overdosing of drug frequently.

Welcome to another episode of the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land and our guest today is Chuck Hazzard. Chuck is the VP of Sales at the OURA Ring and he's also a huge biohacker. So we're going to be talking about what's new with the upcoming OURA Ring 2.0. What are the dangerous side effects of sleep deprivation?

How to improve your sleep? What other biomarkers you need to pay attention to for optimal health like HRV and stuff? I also have to tell you that in this interview, I was on the road and I didn't have access to my usual equipment. And that's why we also got some echoing in my part from the audio, but it's nothing too bad. And you can definitely gain still like a ton of valuable information from Chuck.

Chuck Hazzard (1:50)

We'll do it live.

Siim Land (1:51)

So, let's get on with the episode.

Chuck Hazzard (1:56)

I mostly, you know, working with sort of the business to business side of the OURA. So I talk to like sleep clinics, researchers, you know, people who want to collaborate with, you know, sort of that side of the business.

Siim Land (2:15)

So, when is the next ring gonna be launched?

Chuck Hazzard (2:20)

Well, we started, as you know, we started shipping the rings a couple of weeks ago. And now what we're involved in is, you know, ramping up production. And for anybody that's, you know, been in the manufacturing world before, you just can't jump right up to, you know, maximum production in a factory. You have to turn the crank a little bit, see if anything breaks. If it doesn't, you turn it up again until something does break and you figure out what broke. And, you know, that's sort of the dance you do in manufacturing. And right now, we hope to be at maximum production by August if all the ramp ups go well.

And so that's where we're at now. So every week we should be increasing the number of rings we ship right through into August.

Siim Land (3:08)

Yeah, sounds and I already got the notification and it's well, actually to have the ring with me as well. Like there's the difference between the first one and the second ring. The second is slightly smaller and more lightweight.

So can you like tell me what's the difference between the first and the second ring?

Chuck Hazzard (3:29)

Well, the obvious thing is you just showed is the size difference.

The new ring has a longer battery life, so it will last up to seven days depending on the individual. The other thing is we have wireless charging of the new ring and part of the advantage of that is less, we didn't have a lot of issues, but there's no absolutely no metal in contact with the user's finger. Now with the first ring, there was a charging contact and it's very not very common, but we had a couple of users who are super sensitive to metal allergies. And so they had some issues with the charging contacts. But the other thing is eliminating the charging contact eliminated another possible place that water could get in. So the first ring was rated to 50 meters below, and now the new one is 100 meters. So twice the depths, which in the US is roughly 300 feet. Another thing with the new ring is we have improved infrared sensors. And so we even though we turned them on with the first generation ring, you had to be really still with the new sensors. We should be able to tolerate a little bit more movement.
