Even if you do all the things perfectly, that's only gonna make you live a little bit longer than the average.
Chris MM (0:05)
How the heck are you beating Bryan Johnson in every single biomarker?
Siim Land (0:12)
My biological age was 10
Chris MM (0:14)
Your age is 10?
Siim Land (0:17)
If you reach 2045, you can live like 100 years more. So like a healthy diet isn't gonna make you live 150 or 160
Chris MM (0:25)
Yeah.
Siim Land (0:26)
That's the most important component. How are you, my man?
Chris MM (0:45)
Oh man, that's my camera guy.
So, Siim, finally I have you here. I wanna talk about the big question in the room. How the heck are you beating Bryan Johnson in every single biomarker? I mean, everyone knows about Bryan Johnson. His whole life is put towards longevity, right? You are having a much simpler approach, right? Maybe approachable for everyone here. I wanna go through, first of all, of course, the important biomarkers to look at, to decrease your risk of dying, to improve your quality of life, right? And then I want to go into how exactly are you achieving that without killing yourself on the way, right? So first of all, please tell us a little bit about yourself, and then I wanna go into these important biomarkers to focus on.
Siim Land (1:42)
Yeah, well, I'm happy to be here as well. So with the competitions of these biomarkers and stuff, two years ago or something, I was ranked number one on his Rejuvenation Olympics leaderboard, which is based on this Speed of Aging epigenetic age test. I haven't retested that particular test for the last two years because I think it's kind of a little bit too expensive of a test, and it's not that useful, at least what I think based on the science. And I've shifted more towards focusing on the blood markers and other biomarker-based tests, which are a lot cheaper.
They are more specific in terms of pin-pointing which exact organ system needs more attention for you. And I think they have a lot more clinical value as well, of what can we do to improve your biological age and overall mortality risk. So, yeah, myself, I've been into health content for almost 10 years. Like my YouTube, my first YouTube video was maybe 2016
At the end of 2016, I've come a long way since then in terms of growing. But yeah, during that time, I've evolved my channel as well, initially being just many different other topics that I was interested in. I initially wrote, I think my first ever video was about how to read faster, so how to read books faster.
And then I was covering things like, just personal development, some philosophy, nutrition, a bit of fasting, proactivity, those kind of things. And over the last five years or so of just more towards gravitated longevity and life extension, because I have a background in anthropology, which my education is. And as an anthropologist, I'm interested in the human species and human culture and science and technology of how those things influence our lives and human evolution in terms of where we were in the past, you know, how the Santa Caterers and then farmers, then more towards like industrial societies and now modern societies. Where are we going next in terms of technology and science? And the intersection with that and the longevity is an idea that's called Longevity Escape Velocity, which was popularized by Aubrey de Grey about 22 years ago. And essentially the idea behind the Longevity Escape Velocity is that he predicts that around 2040, 2045, somewhere around there, we're going to reach this point in medicine and science, where every year that goes by, our life expectancy pretty much catches up. So although we get older every year, one year at a time, these advancements in medicine and science will allow us to pretty much reverse that or slow it down or keep us alive for longer.
Chris MM (4:36)
I want to jump into that quickly. So what is the prediction by 2020, 40 or something? How old can we get?
If the life expectancy expands, everyone wants to know, okay, am I able to get 120 years old or 140 or what would it be?
Siim Land (4:51)
Yeah, so that's the question everyone wants to know. But I think right now, we don't have a clear answer to that. It's all very speculative. So there's no proof that we will be able to reach that point where we'll be able to live in hundreds of years. But I guess, scientifically, it is possible or it's possible because in nature, there are some species that are quote unquote immortal. So there are some jellyfish and some hydras that at a certain point of their development can revert back to a more youthful state.
