The Auburn Express

September 11, 2026

Auburn football has a simple assignment against Southern Miss: impose its will. After escaping Baylor with a win, Auburn now gets an opportunity to show what this offense is supposed to look like when the Tigers have the advantage in talent. The number to watch could be 250 rushing yards.

Ike Jones (2:43)

Yeah, I think that anything over 250 is a success.

B Wil (2:49)

Okay.

Ike Jones (2:50)

I think any 250 plus yards on the ground in this one, you should be able to impose your will.

And defensively, it felt like Auburn did that at times versus Baylor where they just kind of imposed your will. Certainly Eric Winters imposed his will at the end of the game to win you the game. Offensively, I can't think of one time during the game where I felt like Auburn imposed their will. They had opportunities, but did they impose their will on Baylor?

Mike G (3:22)

I think that they did, well, the touchdown drives, I should say, I think that they did a really good job of, they had a short field on one of them, but that final drive, they was no resistance from Baylor. It was just almost as, it was like, this is what I expected y'all to do the whole game. They just marched down the field, Byrum Brown 4-4 on that drive. They just looked like the type of team that should have been dominant the whole time.

Ike Jones (3:44)

Yeah, yeah, so I don't know, man, I think 250 on the ground, 250 in the air across all quarterbacks, 500 yards of offense, and I'm satisfied, right? Because, and here's the thing too, and because I expect them to run the ball effectively, I don't assume they're going to be a ton of possessions unless they're just scoring really quickly, but grind out the clock, wear them down, you know, get off the, keep your defense off the field. Stay healthy, get to Florida.

That's it. I mean, disaster if someone like Xavier or Elijah or Eric gets hurt in a game like this. Yeah. Right. So grind out long drives offensively and score at the end. I think they have a little something to prove to us in the red zone as well, too.

This coming week. I want to see that red zone offense. Alex Golos, when I asked him about red zone offense during fall camp, he said that he really felt like Byrum Brown gives them that extra, right? Like in the red zone. I'm not sure we saw it versus Baylor.

Mike G (4:57)

I mean, they had three red zone trips. They scored two touchdowns and had a field goal.
