Every year, late round quarterbacks turn into league winners. Over the last three years, we have seen players drafted in the double digit rounds who have returned top five production. Last year, it was Matthew Stafford and Trevor Lawrence. The year before that, Baker Mayfield and Jaden Daniels. The year before that, Dak Prescott and Jordan Love. And you can bet your bottom dollar that there are going to be quarterbacks drafted this year in the double digit rounds that are going to return top five production. Today, Bob Harris and I are going to talk to the guys that we think are most likely to do that.
Bob, one of the guys that we are going to talk about did it last year, but is still, for whatever reason, falling in fantasy drafts. Talk to me about why drafters should draft Trevor Lawrence again.
**Bob Harris** (2:21)
Well, because the price is right.
The current quarterback 11 average draft position, seventh round price. You don't need Lawrence to repeat what he did last year. What did he do last year? He was quarterback four overall. By the way, it wasn't just the quarterback four. It was the late season run, right? That was like super impressive. Had seven consecutive top ten fantasy outings to finish the season. I finished his quarterback four, but had was quarterback one overall from weeks 10 through 17
Call that the league production, people. Yes, there were a lot of things that went right for him. And by the way, that eighth great game stretch to close the season, 24 total touchdowns, 19 through the air was just five interceptions. Jacksonville averaged 33.6 points game. I think we see the Liam Cohen effect build as the season went on. I think we'll compound on that over the course of the off season, especially with talk of maybe emerging chemistry. I want to take it too far with Brian Thomas Jr. A lot of emphasis in Jacksonville on what's been going on with Brian Thomas Jr. We can remember the rookie season, all of the big numbers came with Mac Jones as the quarterback, nothing with Trevor Lawrence. So we didn't see a good connection last year. Still, Lawrence finished the season, he completed 69, 60.9% of his passes, 4,000 yards, 29 touchdowns, 12 interceptions. The rushing totals, I think, are what have people worried this year, right?
Last year's rushing totals, nine rushing touchdowns. Okay, he's not going to score those this year. I'm going to go out, go ahead and go out on a limb here and say he doesn't hit nine.
It's possible, but I don't think so. But he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to return that quarterback four number or play that quarterback one level. But I still think he will. I don't think, you know, Cohen lent further confidence to me in all these pieces in this offense, and Trevor Lawrence included. Remember, started his career with Urban. I mean, Urban Myers is head coach, and then Darrell Bevel replaced him for part of that year. Then three years with Doug Peterson, that were just kind of blah. And now we have one of these young offensive minded coaches come in. And it's had success in other places with that Rams style offense. And we saw great things last year. I'm expecting more great things this year, even if it's not quarterback four. I'm ranking him aggressively though. I think I currently have him as quarterback five. And I think that's reasonable even with the regression baked in on the rushing.
