We grew up with the phrase home is where the heart is. But our culture has shifted, and now the message is, our home should be Pinterest perfect. But I'm calling BS on that message. Home, it's not about the stuff, it's about the story. And whether you know it or not, your home right now is already saying something. So what is it you want your home to say? Hey, I'm Dani, a former first grade teacher and home decorator. Going from a dual income to a single income so I could stay home with my baby's mint budget, like ramen eating, goodwill shopping budget. And I learned a few things along the way. Like how to bring big style to your home without breaking the bank. And I'm sharing it all with you here. Tips, tricks, decor and design advice so you can start telling your story with your style. Welcome to Fig and Farm at Home where it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Hey friend, before we get into today's episode, I want to tell you about something. If you've been listening to the podcast for a while, you know my story. I taught myself to decorate on a ramen budget, striping a wall with leftover paint because we couldn't afford to paint the whole thing. I've made the expense of mistakes, I've stood in the store holding something, texting a blurry photo to someone saying, thoughts? I get it, I've been there. Here's the thing nobody tells you about decorating. It's not a taste problem, it's not a Pinterest problem, it's a process problem. You don't need more inspiration, friend, you've got plenty. What you need is a plan and someone in your corner while you figure it out. That's exactly why I built the Cozy Home Reset. It's six months inside the Cozy Home Collective plus a private room reset call with me one-on-one, so you get the community and the personal guidance. Real coaching, real support, a real process, not another list of things to buy. Are you ready? Let's make your home feel like you and your friends are living in a cozy home, especially cozy. Grab your spot and I'll see you inside, friend.
Have you ever gone into maybe a store or a hotel, a restaurant, a lobby of some really nicely designed building and immediately felt like, oh, this is really nice. It's warm, it's welcoming, it's inviting, it's cozy. It is just so comfortable. And I bet you've done that even when you've read books, where you've imagined the scene. But then we put a visual on it like in a magazine or in a TV show or in a movie. And then you really have the visual for what you can imagine. And that visual then becomes one of those things where you might feel like you could literally step out of your seat and into that scene and feel at home. Well, that's what we're talking about today. Today, we are talking about the Nancy Meyers Aesthetic. And if you don't know who Nancy Meyers is, she is an acclaimed film director, a producer and a screenwriter, who's widely celebrated for writing and directing really fun romantic comedies that you probably know about. But the thing about the things that she directs is that she creates these really lovely set designs that have actually transformed some of the interior design scene. If you were to type in Nancy Meyers design style on Pinterest, you would be welcomed with a bunch of visual images. And it's not just from the movies, but now it's people recreating this type of style in their own homes. It is that admirable.
And you might recognize some of the movies that she has created these sets for. Movies like The Holiday, one of my absolutely favorites by the way.
The Intern, it's complicated. Something's got to give. Father of the Bride, another one of my favorites from long ago. I need to rewatch that one. The Parent Trap.
Any of those that you might have watched and you immediately felt like, oh, this is so cozy.
That is her design aesthetic. And it's just used on these movie sets and now has transformed into the interior design world. But overall, her style is approachable. It is elevated but cozy. It is elevated but not snobbish.
It is lived in. It is patina a little bit. It is storied a little bit. It has well-loved items and nothing is too precious, but everything seems to be an invitation to sit and hang out a while. And if you spilled, it wouldn't really matter. That is kind of her aesthetic in a nutshell. But the thing about the way that she has designed these movie sets is that they have been so meticulously designed and crafted with warm aspirational style, that it has literally transformed the interior design world.
