Rebecca believed that she needed to move in order to love her home.
Laura, she believed that she would make another mistake, and each mistake was so costly that she couldn't afford it.
Kelly believed that because she was an adult, she had to stick with beige, white, pretty bland and boring, that she couldn't bring color into her space. Deb believed that she didn't trust her gut when it came time to making decisions because her gut had led her astray so many times.
Sheila believed that she didn't have enough money to pull off a big transformation in her home, and it needed it. Sarah believed that her style was too eclectic, so there was no hope for her. Diana believed that the decorating jean skipped her, and that she'd need to spend thousands of dollars in order to create a space that was done by a designer, but that she wouldn't understand how it was done. Lucy believed that the strategy for making her home beautiful was copying what she saw on Pinterest, and she did it room to room, until one day she realized, oops, that was a mistake too. And Jen believed that she could never have nice things because she had kids and pets and a husband.
A husband who had low decorating standards. There's a commonality between all of them friends, and that's what we're talking about in today's show.
We grew up with the phrase, home is where the heart is. But our culture has shifted, and now the message is, home should be Pinterest perfect. I'm calling BS on that message. Home, it's not about the stuff, it's about the story. And whether you know it or not, your home is a reflection of you, and is already saying something. So what is it that you want it to say? Hey, I'm Dani, a former first grade teacher and home decorator, going from a dual income to a single income so I could stay home with my baby's meant budget, like ramen eating, goodwill shopping budget. And I learned a few things along the way, like how to bring big style to your home without breaking the bank. And I'm sharing it all with you. Tips, tricks, decor, and design advice so you can learn to tell your story with your style, where you can start living free from the Pinterest Perfect Trap and start living a life of intention. Welcome to Fig and Farm at Home, where we design happy living and where it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful. The fact that each of these women were stuck in their own homes or looking around and thinking, something's got to change, I just don't know what or how to proceed. That is not the only commonality between them. It's a big one, but it's not the only thing. Because they all believed that they didn't have to wait for some day, that the some day of maybe some day they're going to have a home they love, or maybe some day they'll have the windfall to be able to afford the new construction or the new space or all the things, or some day they'll be able to hire the designer that they really want to, or some day they'll be able to take the course or what have you. They didn't believe that they needed to wait for the some day.
They took action. They had motivation in order to book the call.
But it goes even deeper than that. They didn't believe that having a home they loved should be a luxury, that it fell into that categorical space of, it's got to be expensive, it's got to be a luxury, it's got to be worth it, and I have to earn it. They all believed that their home supported the life that they're living, the families they're raising, the people that they are inviting over to their spaces, and that their homes should be a welcoming respite after the end of a long day or a space where they could invite people in too.
They all believed that first. They believed that they were worth the help that they needed, and so they booked the call. And that's a commonality. These are all women I have worked with, all women who have felt the feelings that maybe you're feeling today too, that have felt the places where they've been stuck, and they might have been stuck for longer than just a week. They might have been stuck. Some of them were stuck for years. Some of them raised their kids, looked up and thought, oh my gosh, this is what I'm left with. Not an empty sadness feeling, but a, okay, now that I have a little time on my shoulders, I have time to invest in this space that I call home. And many of them didn't even have to wait for the empty nest to realize it. They just looked up or they answered that feeling that was nagging inside that anytime they walked into a room, they would feel something didn't feel quite right. They couldn't ever pinpoint what it was, but they knew something wasn't quite right. They thought maybe it's the rug. The rug surely is too small. Maybe it's the naked wall or maybe that art is too big or, I don't know, maybe I need a new pillow or two or three or none at all. I have no idea. Something just doesn't feel quite right. They looked up and they noticed and they started asking questions. And I'm so glad they did. I'm so glad they did because these women who I've mentioned in so many others have created spaces in their home that they are proud to walk into. They've created these spaces where they are now receiving compliments from friends. You know, one of the best compliments I get is when I hear from someone who I've helped and we've maybe spent a course of a couple months together really working and diving in to transforming any space. And then they say something like Dani, now they're asking me questions. Do you know that that is one of the biggest compliments I get? Because the transfer of belief didn't just happen. It is now the transfer of knowledge. And I've mentioned it before that design is teachable. And it is. Design is teachable. But the other thing that they all have is that they're growing in confidence. The decisions has become easier to make. The decision fatigue becomes lighter.
