Happy to hear your thoughts on it. 487 736 736 is the text line. 13 12 55 is the Bauer and Doday open line. Bauer and Doday, because the little things are everything. Let's get on to four thoughts on sport to get us rolling this morning. First thought, the news that the Eagles are looking closely at recruiting Jack Viney. And there are two ways to look at this, and I have to say I'm torn either way.
The first way is that Viney is an experienced hard body. He is a leader. He is a great mentor. He is an example setter. He would set standards. He would be a mature brain and hard body to put into the Eagles midfield alongside Harley Reid and Willem Dursma, and he would be absolutely precious to those two players. So on that score, you'd have to say West Coast should absolutely be strongly considering recruiting Jack Viney. The second way to look at it is that Viney is 32 now. He will turn 33 next year. He played one game this year.
Proceed with caution, West Coast, and make sure there's a good medical in place before you commit to Jack Viney. The second thought is on the news that Geelong's Jake Collajasny, the subject of a concussion waiver that earned the Cats a $140,000 fine from the AFL, will be retired medically.
Just reminding you, the Cats were happy for Collajasny to continue playing, as long as they had a waiver in the draw where he signed away his rights for financial compensation in the event of a head injury. A waiver that may or may not be worth the paper it is written on, according to legal opinion. But he will not continue to play now that the waiver has been called out.
Funny that. Even funnier that the AFL claimed the Cats did almost everything right. Third thought is on the news that former Sydney coach John Longmire will leave the Swans to take up a new role at Essendon. This is a significant coup for new coach Mark McVey, a significant coup for the struggling bombers. He will be a strong voice alongside McVey, and that's going to be important for the bombers as they try and continue a list build and keep the unrest that has plagued them in recent years at bay. And finally, fourth thought, like the debate over Warfee Time, the arguments rage over Shay Bolton winning the Norm Smith Medal. Now, I don't have time to share my own Norm Smith Medal voting experience and controversy with you right now, but remind me via text, and I will later in the show, there are some eerie parallels between my experience and the experience of the voters in Saturday's Grand Final. I voted in 2002
That was one of Brisbane's three-peat efforts under Lee Matthews, and like the vote on Saturday, the panel I was on awarded the medal to a player from the losing team. I'll give you more on that later on in the show. Give us your thoughts and questions. 487736736 That is the text line. 131255 is the Bower and O'Day open line. Bower and O'Day, because little things are everything. After the break, we'll be talking to Dockers CEO, Simon Garlic, Made in WA for WA. This is Mornings with Mark Duffield on SENWA.
