The Hannah Summerhill Show

October 5, 2026

After 10+ years in corporate, I recognized these 4 specific blocks to manifesting in myself and my students. Working in an office instills plenty of skills that are helpful in the 3D... but not so much when we're manifesting. Ready to clear them? Listen now.

Hello, everybody, and welcome back to today's episode. So happy to have you guys here. I'm really excited about this topic because it's one I get asked about a lot. And that is from current or former corporate girlies who have gotten to the top of the ladder and they've realized they feel quite empty.

They want something else, and then they find me. And I have found and struggled with myself that a lot of corporate ambitious women struggle when it comes to manifesting because there are very specific blocks that corporate ingrains in you that make manifesting a little bit harder. And so we're going to name those blocks so that we can clear them. And all of these are ones that I personally have had to undo myself. So let's get into it, OK? Corporate life, which I spent over 10 years in, in New York City in the magazine industry, working in ad sales, it trains you to look for validation, direction, permission, and money outwardly.

Whether that's from your job, from your company, and from or from your accomplishments.

Manifestation is the complete opposite. You are looking inward for validation, for permission to be a generator of your own abundance. So a lot of us are sold this idea of happiness when we get to the top of the corporate ladder or when we get the corner office or when we make a certain amount of money. But I have found, because this was my journey, and I see this with a lot of my current students, is that once we get there, we look around and we think, I feel a lot emptier than I thought I would. Why doesn't this feel good? This doesn't feel fulfilling. This doesn't feel satisfying. Oh, and I'm completely burnt out. If that sounds familiar, it is because you learned all of these incredible skills as a corporate baddie. But those are actually survival skills that don't help you when it comes to manifesting. So let's break down these blocks.

Therefore, the first one is the always-on nervous system.

When you work in an office or you work at a job that requires you to always respond to your email or your text messages or your Slack notifications, you start to become primed for this always-on, always needing to respond energy to the point where instead of just relaxing and feeling like, okay, it is safe when nothing's happening, I can be calm, you start to equate alertness and looking at your email and checking your email as what's safe and feeling calm as feeling exposed or vulnerable or like, okay, there's a threat coming, the other shoe is going to drop, right? I feel like as corporate women, we have been trained and brainwashed to believe that if nothing is demanding our attention, something must be going wrong. So we become so suspicious of the quiet moments. But manifestation is really the opposite. It's not just being in an energy of responding. Often, it's just being in an energy of receiving, right?

This may be the reason if you've been in corporate for a while, that you have a hard time sitting down to meditate because you don't feel like it's productive and you're not responding to anything, and feeling safe in your body in the relaxed, calm state isn't something that you're actually used to. I remember feeling like, what is the point of meditation? What does it actually do? I'm just sitting there with my eyes closed, which makes me laugh because now it's like the foundation of my manifestation practice. But I used to be this person, this person who only felt safe when I'd gotten to the bottom of my inbox, or every Slack message was responded to. I remember when Slack was introduced and I was like, what? I have to respond to this all day too? I've already got my outlook and I've got my text messages, and now I've got Slack too. It is so overwhelming. It fried me, and I still struggle with this sometimes because I have my work email and I have my personal email, and I have DMs coming at me a lot. And so I struggle sometimes to feel like everything's okay, even if I haven't responded to everybody, even if I haven't answered every comment or DM on my Instagram, or responded to every email in my inbox. I've had to train my body to be like, it's okay.

Magic can happen. You are worthy of amazing things, even if you feel like your to-do list isn't done. Now, this is a skill and a practice that I really had to build up, because when I quit my job in corporate almost seven years ago, I still had this same exact habits. Like I became an entrepreneur and I didn't have a boss, but I still had those same habits ingrained in me. And so if this sounds familiar to you, maybe the quiet, maybe meditating, maybe calm, maybe peace doesn't actually feel safe. And it's time for you, if you want to become a better manifesto and you still have a corporate job, it's time for you to really intentionally create those pockets of calm, where you train your body to feel safe with the uncertainty, with the lack of response yet, with the full inbox. You want to train your body to feel safe, even if your to-do list isn't done. This is something that can be really, really hard, especially for high-achieving, super-accomplished people in corporate.
