Welcome to Embracing Digital Transformation. Before we dive in, I wanted to personally thank you for listening. Many of the ideas we discuss on this show inspired my new book, AI Augmented Teams. If you're looking for practical ways to combine human expertise and AI to achieve better outcomes, I think you'll find it valuable. Learn more at paydar.ai.books.

That is paidar.ai.

Now, let's get started with the show. There are common themes, patterns that we've seen to all organizations. One being, how do you measure success of an AI deployment? Most organizations. Measure it in really weird ways, not are they using it well, just how many people are using it? How much money did I spend on it? And they're measuring that And. I'm like scratching my head, where's your return on investment? Why this matters to you. AI adoption is already moving faster than many enterprises can govern it. Leaders are under pressure to show progress, but speed without structure creates privacy risk, legal exposure, and weak business outcomes. The real challenge is not whether AI can be used, but whether your organization can use it responsibly, measure it properly, and keep human judgment in the loop. In this conversation, you'll hear why that distinction matters now more than ever, and what executives need to think about before the next wave of AI projects arrives.

Welcome to Embracing Digital Transformation. This is Dr. Darren. On this episode, AI governance for the enterprise, why leaders need an operating model, with Paige Pulsipher and Jeremy Harris.

Paige Pulsipher (1:56)

Welcome to the show. I am Paige Pulsipher, and I am guest hosting today as I have done on previous shows.

So welcome to the show.

Jeremy Harris (2:06)

Thanks. Thanks for having me back.

Paige Pulsipher (2:08)

You're welcome.

Dr. Darren Pulsipher (2:09)

Thanks for having me on my show, Paige.

Paige Pulsipher (2:12)

You're welcome. You're welcome. Okay. So wait, wait, wait, wait. Yes.

Dr. Darren Pulsipher (2:17)

You answer the question everyone always asks, does your wife call you Dr. Darren? And the answer is yes. Absolutely.

Paige Pulsipher (2:23)

That is all I refer to him as. Yes. Yes, sir.

Okay. So Jeremy, I know you have been on the show before. However, I don't think you were on the show when Darren was asking, is Darren only has superheroes on his show. And I don't think you were on the show when he was saying that. And so because he only has superheroes on the show, we need to hear your background story.

Jeremy Harris (2:53)

So my background story involves lots of tests, lots of reading.

No, I went to law school, graduated law school and I joined the Air Force actually as an Air Force JAG, spent 20 years doing that. The first nine of which were active duty. So I did a lot of court work, prosecution and defense work, and I ended my active duty side in the health care side, as the general counsel of the health care hospital, I guess, system on the East Coast. Then I switched over to the reserves and came here to California, started working in-house at Sutter Health. And that's when I really started focusing on technology, on privacy, eventually on AI, and how that works and how that implements in the health care setting.

Paige Pulsipher (3:45)

Nice. And here you are. And you came to the promised land of California.

Jeremy Harris (3:49)

Yeah.

It's nice, actually. I really like it. So, and then I met Dr. Darren and I, you know, I just felt like he wasn't a doctor at the time, full disclosure, but, you know, he felt driven to go become a doctor. And so he wants to start using something like that Esquire or something with me. And I'm just Jeremy, you know, I'm good with that.

Paige Pulsipher (4:12)

Just Jeremy. That's what we'll call you. Just Jeremy. Just a little jingle there and everything, right? JJ.

Dr. Darren Pulsipher (4:18)

We can't call him Dr. J. He's got just his doctorate. So, yeah.

Paige Pulsipher (4:23)

So for our viewers that don't know, we actually live on the same street as just Jeremy, and have been very close friends for as long as they've lived here. So as soon as you moved here, we claimed you.

Jeremy Harris (4:37)

And we were like, Yeah, I think you guys moved in what, like six months or a year before I did.

Paige Pulsipher (4:41)

I think about a year before you guys. Yeah. So here we are. Okay, let's get to why we are here today. So Darren, I want to ask you a question. I want to ask you because this whole show today is because you have written another book, another book in your AI Augmented series.
