Hello, and welcome to episode 333 of Something About the Beatles podcast. Now, it may seem like of late we've been living in candlestick land with the number of shows we've done this year, starting with the Amelia Davis conversation regarding Jim Marshall photography of that show, but there was also the Don Dannemann of The Circle who had been on that final tour, and the most recent one with Naomi Marcus, who is a backstage and onstage witness to the show, but got to meet the Beatles and told her story. So all that's been going on, but we also had the recent anniversary, August 30th, of the two One To One concert benefits that John and Yoko did in 1972 And they've been recently commemorated with last year's Power to the People box set, which featured the live recordings, rebooted, remastered, retweaked to sound as powerful as they could be, which is something that's eluded us all this time. And then there was this year's Power to the People film that came out of the One To One shows that had a theatrical showing earlier in the year.

And I'd gone to see it on the big screen with my Classic Rock Album Olympics podcast partner, Gary Wenstrup. And we saw it on the big screen together and decided to have a conversation about what our take was on that. I haven't seen it come out on home video yet, but I'm imagining that that will come out at some point as a Blu-ray, one would think. Now that they've got it all cleaned up and sounding better than it ever has before. As well as perhaps as bonus material, include the tracks that weren't in the film. And we know what they were. In any event, we had a conversation about that. And sort of widening the lens, I thought, well, all well and good, Gary is sort of a late first generation Beatle fan. I would consider myself second generation. But what would be more interesting to me, I thought, for conversation would be, what do the Latter Day fans that are thoroughly living in this world and know all the Beatle lore and have gone down the rabbit hole who may have come into the world post John Lennon.

What do they think about it? How does it speak to them? How did they relate to it? So I was very interested in that. I've had the talks in the past with first generation fan Candy Leonard about John's politics, but I thought maybe screening the One To One documentary and getting a latter generation take on what they're getting from that documentary would be a worthwhile conversation. And to that end, I brought back to the show Erika White, who was on earlier this year discussing her upcoming book on the Butcher cover and the Robert Riddicker shoot and everything all around that in the greater context in her book Meet the Beatles, which will be coming in early 2027 So Erika and I had a talk about John Lennon's politics and how the couple was presented in the recent documentary. We're basically covering the whole of that between the two films that period. Want to welcome to the show Quince as a sponsor. That is new to the show.

And just want to once again put out the call to anybody who is interested in keeping up with what is planned for the show, what is upcoming, as well as Beatle News and Beatle History by subscribing to the Satbe newsletter. And you can do that by shooting an email to SATB2010 at Gmail, Satbe2010 at Gmail, subject line newsletter, and that will get you on the mailing list. So presenting now, my conversation was first Erika White and then Gary Wenstrup.
