All right, how's it going, everybody? Thank you for stopping by. My name is Antonio. Today is Saturday, September 26th, and this week, it's gonna be a bit of a different episode. For one, I'm all alone. Scott Norfey couldn't make it. Something happened with his computer this week, so I'm only doing Canada. No Aussie movers, no kangaroo jokes, no Danonda, none of that.
And also, I was at the Pressure Metal Summit in Beard Creek, Colorado. I'm still here, actually. I'm just about to leave, but it is a busy week. This week, I think I did 40 meetings in total, probably about 25 interviews. That episode is going to come out next week. I was asking a couple of annoying questions, just to stay on brand with myself.
Point is, not a lot of food, not a lot of sleep, but a lot of caffeine, though. So if I'm feeling kind of jumpy, and also it feels like I'm going to fall asleep at a certain point, that's because I'm both. And it's kind of complicated, but you get what I mean. As always, I'll still try to do the same thing. I'm quickly going to run through the top three bests and the top three worst performance on the Canadian Stock Exchanges this weekend. As always, these are not stock picks. I haven't selected to talk about those specifically, and I'm not doing a full analysis. I'm not providing any conclusions on any of those. This is literally just a quick overview of the best and the worst performance of the past week with trying to figure out what's moving them, and also within a few parameters too, which I...
I, by the way, adjusted those parameters, so it used to be 10 million market cap was the cutoff. Now I'm going to use 20 million market cap as a cutoff. Someone suggested that in the videos last week, so thank you for doing that. That was actually a good idea. That's what we're going to do from here on out. But yeah, that's it. Not sock picks, just the movers. You can see the movers for yourself, by the way, using your own parameters for free on mininghub.com, who's also the sponsor of this weekly video. They're the ones making possible the underlying technology as well. That all said, it was a volatile week for the metals this week, but gold and silver closed down and copper closed up actually. Gold and silver actually did start the week pretty strongly, but that was reality checked very quickly after some of the official, not necessarily real, but definitely official US economic data appeared stronger than expected. The continued inflation pressures are pushing the Fed to even more hawkish commentary. A bunch of stuff is happening online as well. It's going on to the memes and whatnot, and the market seems to be pricing in even more rate hikes this year. A big part of the map or a picture here is the 10-year US Treasury yields moving back about 5 percent, by the way, making the dollar stronger. Higher oil prices and geopolitical risk are also out there. They're playing an important role here.
Maybe a little bit counterintuitive, so instead of just driving safe haven buying in gold, expensive energy is mostly seen as another source of inflation right now, which makes the case for the Fed to keep rates higher or raise them again even stronger. But as that's pushing the short-term sentiment for gold and silver down, the long-term news have largely been positive. China, for example, something that I saw this week, by the end of August, China had imported more than 1,000 tons of gold in 2026 alone. August was the largest monthly addition since October 2023, and it was also the 22nd consecutive month of buying for the Chinese Central Bank. So pretty big news there. Central Bank buying continues strongly too. Copper reacted midweek too, by the way, but it still finished the week higher. It was held by just the physical market in general. We have tight physical inventories and strong underlying supply and demand conditions that are ongoing. They don't look like they'd be changing anytime soon. Nothing particular happened this week to change that either. As a matter of fact, there was some bullish news around copper that I happened to see. The Shanghai Future Exchange inventories fell close to 16%, 15.9% they fell this week, while the Chinese smelters are announcing reduced production schedules for maintenance. Then the physical copper market has also moved into a very clear backwardation here. On top of that, BHP briefly suspended operations in Escondida. There was a fatal accident there.
That seems to be slowly but surely going back to normal, so there are no major supply balance changes expected there. But given that this is the biggest copper mining in the world, it makes you think how fragile the supply of copper can be. Of course, I can tell this to the families and friends and the people affected by this tragedy. Mining ultimately exists to serve the people and communities, and when a life is lost like that, that purpose is overshadowed by the human cost. So it's very unfortunate. I'll move on now and we can talk about the junior mining market in Canada and what happened there. The best performer in Canada this week was, I'll just do a brief summary here, and then I'll give a little bit more detail on each one. But the best performer was a company that's been a top performer a few times over the last few months, and most of the times it's been the top worst performer. And now this week it's the top best performer. So it's super volatile and that's Greenland Mines. They're a rare earth explorer among other things, and their flagship project is located in Greenland. The stock is up 415% this week, so 4.1, 5%.
