Hey, welcome back to the channel. My name is Siim Land. And in this video, I'm going to give you the beginner longevity supplement stack. So I'm going to just list out five of some pretty good beginner supplements that can help with longevity and increase your health span. If you think that I've left some things out, then don't worry, I've actually made another video about it. That is like a basic longevity supplement stack that I think like almost every person should take some of the five supplements that everyone should take. But in this one, we're going to talk about more like actual longevity ones that maybe add on top of that. Like what is the beginning supplements if you want to take or you should take if you want to begin, let's say, taking care of your longevity. Number one is going to be melatonin. So melatonin is mostly associated with being the sleep hormone or more like the hormone of darkness, but it also has many other longevity benefits. It acts as an antioxidant. It regulates the process of pathology, apoptosis, helps to detoxify the brain, bone health, your canine rhythms, immune system, inflammation, many things. And there is pretty much association between melatonin levels and aging. So melatonin is more than just the sleep hormone. And there is like this decrease in melatonin levels as you get older, which may increase your risk of different kinds of diseases, like mostly brain related diseases like Alzheimer's and neurodegeneration. But of course, like autoimmunity and immunosinnessence will increase if your melatonin levels drop too low as you get older. And melatonin is also directly linked with maybe like the physical deterioration of the body. So the melatonin acts as an antioxidant that actually blocks things like these three radicals, hydrogen peroxide and different kinds of superoxide dismutase, those kind of things that melatonin can block them from causing too much harm to the cells.

And mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, you know, mitochondrial theory of aging is still to this day, it has like some flaws, but it's still one of the like the foundations to why we age and what causes accelerated aging. And melatonin is obviously quite powerful in preventing that or slowing it down because of the sleep itself is the body's healing time or period. And melatonin is really important for improving the sleep quality and deep sleep and REM sleep specifically. And melatonin also affects your tunings and improves like vascular endothelial homeostasis and just, you know, vascular function. So your cardiovascular function is going to be better. The problem is that, you know, as you get older, like I said, your melatonin levels decrease. As you can see, like older people produce much less melatonin and they have like these less peaks and valleys in their circadian melatonin profile. And as a result of that, whereas, you know, young people have like big swings in this circadian rhythm. And as a result of that, it is thought that your old people just need less sleep. No, that's not the true. Old people just sleep less generally because their body produces this melatonin, which would keep them asleep, whereas your body produces a lot of melatonin in puberty and as a child. So you would grow.

Yeah, pineal gland deterioration in the pineal gland and suprachiasmatic nucleus, the circadian clock inside the brain becomes damaged as you get older. And this leads to this lower production of melatonin and other circadian hormones. The caveat to melatonin supplementation is that, you know, it does have contraceptive effects. So that's why you're not fertile before puberty either, because your body produces a lot of melatonin at least, you know, very simplistically put. But generally, high doses of melatonin have been used as a contraceptive as well. But the dose for that is like 75 milligrams. So you would need still a quite large dose to have these contraceptive effects by taking melatonin, whereas, you know, most regular supplemental doses are between like 0.3 and 1 milligrams, maybe 3 milligrams at max.

So you would need to take a lot to start having a contraceptive effect. But, you know, there's also like regulation issues that a lot of the supplements out there may have a huge range. They can range from anywhere like 0.1 to 400 milligrams in the supplement. So they don't actually necessarily have the actual amount of melatonin, as the label says. So you need to be kind of careful with that. But generally, I think that even a little bit of melatonin supplement even periodically would be more net positive, especially if you're older. Younger people may not need to take melatonin every night or regularly, but let's say if I were to be in my 40s or 50s or 60s, then I would consider taking melatonin as a regular supplement because even then, let's say in your 60s or 80s, I mean, you're not going to be fertile anyway if you're 80 years old or 90 years old.
