Welcome to the Siim Land Podcast I'm your host Siim Land and our guest today is Barton Scott. Barton is the founder and CEO of Upgraded Formulas, which is a company that creates nanominerals. Nanominerals are nanoparticle supplements that get absorbed much better than regular supplements.

No matter what you read and however you can convince yourself that something works, if you're not feeling it or if you're not testing, remember going back to test on guess. I mean, how do you really know?

Welcome to the Siim Land Podcast, I'm your host Siim Land, and our guest today is Barton Scott. Barton is the founder and CEO of Upgraded Formulas, which is a company that makes nanoparticle sized minerals. Nano minerals are much smaller than regular supplements, and thus they get into the cell much more easily. As a result, you absorb the minerals better and you need smaller doses to get the effect. You can check them out at upgradedformulas.com and use the code SIIM10.
Barton, welcome to the show.

Hey, great to be here with you, Siim.
Siim Land (0:39)
Yeah, it's like several people have wanted to introduce us to each other because we have like this very common topic of minerals that we share. So I'm actually glad to speak with you and talk about it.
Barton Scott (0:53)
It's so important, isn't it? I'm glad to be talking with someone that really gets it as well.
It seems like I'm always just making the yeah, yeah, it's so important. I mean, the world is an elemental place. And how we can think that we could be optimal and not test our minerals and not focus on minerals and all their interactions is kind of mind blowing to me. Yeah, that's what our planets and solar system and bodies are made of.
Siim Land (1:27)
Yeah, exactly. And the minerals themselves are like, you know, just involved in every step of the way to like energy production and other neurotransmitters and everything else. So, yeah, I think it's a super underlooked sort of thing.
Barton Scott (1:42)
Couldn't agree more. Yeah, it's really important.
And I mean, we can dive into wherever you want to go, like minerals for thyroid, minerals for adrenals, common misconceptions, absorption issues, I mean, wherever you want to take it.
Siim Land (2:00)
Yeah, for sure, we could do that. But first, let's talk about your backstory, like what is your backstory and how did you like develop such appreciation for minerals?
Barton Scott (2:11)
Yeah, short story is because I had to.
And a little bit longer story that I'll try to keep interesting for people is that, so first, you know, first and foremost, I'm here because I'm able to be here. I studied chemical engineering and everyone in my family had an affinity for chemistry, it seemed like. So on one side of the family, they had compounding pharmacies where they would sort of make drugs from scratch. And I was familiar with this and, you know, we had this entrepreneurial family as well. So this kind of mix of things was like somewhere in the back of my mind, but I didn't have a problem. I felt like I had to solve that I felt compelled to work on until I started to a couple of things happened. Actually, I started to lose my memory and in my mid 20s. And that was because I had been an athlete at a pretty high level in a couple of different sports, wrestling, particularly where you sweat so much as people may know if they've been through that sport. I would sweat six to eight pounds of water weight. And of course, from a mineral perspective, that's a lot of potassium. That's a lot of sodium. That's a lot of a lot of things.
And I mean, there's just no chance you're replenishing all of that when you're not supplementing. And you're not testing to know where you were as a baseline. And of course, at 12 and 13, when I was starting to supplement, which was early, that was kind of like the beginning of real, you know, consistent quality supplements. Before that, there was a lot of just junk in the market. And so, you know, at this point in my mid 30s, I've been supplementing for a little over 20 years. And I've seen the industry change over the years and improve. But there were just so many things that I saw needed to improve. And it wasn't just from a quality perspective. So because of that sport, I started to say that because that's how I got into an awareness, a forced awareness of supplementation. I wanted to continue to compete at a high level.
And, you know, yeah, played quarterback, played football, played other sports where you sweat a lot too, track, things like that, jujitsu for a while. And just the stress of chemical engineering, you know, you're getting a minor in math, chemistry, a lot of physics. And then you do your major and you focus on, in our case, we had to focus on, which was relatively new at the time, nanotechnology, which was just super exciting.
