Welcome to the Siim Land Podcast, I'm your host Siim Land, and today I'm playing you a conversation I had on another podcast called The Expat Money Show with Mikkel Thorup. We discussed different biohacks for jet lag, traveling, supplementation and fitness. You can check out Mikkel's podcast at expatmoneyshow.com. This episode is brought to you by Kaatsu Training. Kaatsu Bands incorporate blood flow moderation training that trick the body into thinking that it's lifting heavier weights than it actually is.
When traditional weightlifting requires you to reach 70-80% of your one repetition maximum to stimulate muscle hypertrophy, then Kaatsu Bands achieve that effect only at 20-30%. So it's perfect for treating injuries or used when you don't have access to heavier weights. Research about Kaatsu Bands also shows it lowers blood pressure, speeds up recovery from injuries, releases stem cells, builds muscle, burns fat and prevents age-earth muscle loss. These things are amazing and I use them almost every day to recover from my heavier workouts. If you want to try out the Kaatsu Bands, then use the code SEEM for a 10% discount at kaatsuglobal.com.

By education, he is an anthropologist, and also an entrepreneur and a writer. Please welcome to the show Siim Land. Siim, how are you, sir?
Siim Land (1:29)
Yeah, I'm glad to be here, and excited to talk with you.
Mikkel Thorup (1:31)
Well, I'm very excited about this, because I have to come straight out and say it. I'm a big fan of your work. I've listened to a lot of your podcasts, so much so that I actually went out and hired you to do some nutritional planning and some supplement and mineral work so that me and my family can stay really, really healthy. And that's really going to be the topic of today's show, is immune support and staying healthy while traveling.
So I guess before we get going, why don't you take a second and kind of walk us how did you get into this type of work?
Siim Land (2:01)
Yeah, I've been always like pretty interested in just health and like fitness and in my high school years, I got into like weightlifting especially. So that's where I learned a lot about like nutrition and exercise and that sort of thing.
After my high school, I, you know, kind of continued on this interest and also stumbled upon this idea behind like biohacking. And biohacking is just a way to describe controlling your physiology in some way to achieve like a particular goal, whether that be related to body composition, cognition, longevity, wellness, immunity or whatnot. So yeah, just like a, just a methodology almost. And yeah, that includes a lot of different things, not just like exercise, also like sleep and supplementation and also different kinds of technologies. I, you know, with like just my own curiosity and interest, I started creating a lot of content around biohacking first in my blog while I was in college.
And after that, I wrote a few books as well and started my YouTube channel, started the podcast and yeah, wrote several more books and started doing public speaking. So yeah, it's been just like a linear gradual progression from there.
Mikkel Thorup (3:14)
So basically had an interest enough so that you decided you wanted to share your knowledge and the things that you were learning.
And then that's actually turned into a full-time business. I mean, that's the best way to do it. I think it's also really interesting because I got into yours because, and my subscribers know, we just had our second child. And it was so weird in the first couple of weeks of having a second child. I looked at my kid and actually felt mortal for the first time in my life. I'm not an old guy by any means. I'm still very young, but I looked at my son. It was like, holy moly.
Like, I'm really an adult now. Like I kind of always just felt like a child. Even when I had one kid, I just was like, I didn't feel very, not old, but I mean, I felt very like I could do anything that the whole world was in front of me forever. Now I had two kids. I was like, wow, I've got a lot of responsibility. So I started searching around for things on longevity and living for extended periods of time. And a lot of your episodes came up in search.
So it's like, wow, started binge listening to your stuff.
