Art Bell was the best.

Joe Rogan (0:14)

Driving home from the comic store at like one o'clock in the morning, hearing some dude claim he was a time traveler.

Ed Calderon (0:19)

Remember when he, there was a dude that claimed to work at Area 51, and then it cut out, the video show cut out?

Joe Rogan (0:26)

Yeah, that was a good one. Art was the man. That's why we put that photo up there. Because he was, you know, a lot of the subjects that we covered, he was the original guy talking about these things on the radio.

Ed Calderon (0:38)

Yeah, and the fact that he just kept the open lines. If you're a time traveler, just call in and tell us what's going to happen in the future.

Joe Rogan (0:48)

People that were kidnapped by Bigfoot, like no matter what, Art was like, interesting, tell me more.

Ed Calderon (0:53)

Yeah, like he was open to just talking to anyone. He was great.

Joe Rogan (0:56)

He never called bullshit.

Ed Calderon (0:58)

No.

Joe Rogan (0:59)

So Ed, the last time I saw you, you gave me an Aztec death whistle, and Brian Calderon blew it on the air, and it caused the pandemic.

Ed Calderon (1:07)

He was very good at it out of nowhere. He just like grabbed it and whoo.

Joe Rogan (1:12)

We have another one.

Ed Calderon (1:13)

Oh, no. Don't.

Joe Rogan (1:14)

Look at this.

Ed Calderon (1:15)

Probably.

Joe Rogan (1:15)

That's Luke Caverns gave us this one.

Ed Calderon (1:18)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (1:18)

That's a good one, right?

Ed Calderon (1:20)

That is a beautiful one. Probably. Let's not repeat it again.

Joe Rogan (1:23)

I'm not blowing it. I don't know if it's true or not true, but it's an odd coincidence.

Ed Calderon (1:31)

It definitely was. I got a lot of messages about it like, hey, this was coincidentally at the start of this pandemic.

Don't put this on me.

Joe Rogan (1:40)

Listen, man, people have been blowing them whistles all over the world.

Ed Calderon (1:43)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (1:44)

There's a bunch of those whistles out there. There's no way.

Ed Calderon (1:46)

There's no way.

Joe Rogan (1:47)

The only thing is I don't think anybody ever blew one on a podcast that was seen by millions of people.

Ed Calderon (1:52)

I mean, you were directly responsible for those to become this viral popular thing. No, like few people knew about them, but they became this international thing now. Like everybody talks about death whistles now because of it.

Joe Rogan (2:06)

Well, I don't know. They are weird. The sound is creepy.

Ed Calderon (2:11)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (2:11)

You know?

Ed Calderon (2:12)

Definitely weird.

Joe Rogan (2:13)

Ghostly. Yeah. If you heard dudes in the distance making that noise and you knew the people were after you and you heard that, you'd be like, oh, fuck.

Ed Calderon (2:21)

Yeah. I mean, it definitely keeps you up at night seeing people do pranks with them, just screaming them at randomly in the middle of the night in the street. Yeah. People running around.

Joe Rogan (2:31)

What is the origin of that? Like Aztec death whistles. Like when did they start using them? Does anybody know?

Ed Calderon (2:37)

People keep finding them. I mean, Aztec is a modern word for Mejica, which were a bunch of tribes that moved from Northern America down there, and they brought with them a lot of customs. But I think those were around before them. You know, a lot of them emulated animals. So a lot of it was like shamanistic people trying to in view themselves with the spirit of an animal. So a lot of them, you know, have jaguar sounds coming in. But some of the ones that would scream, apparently they're more about the screeching owls that live down there.

But they've been like, people told me that native people down there told me that they were very much specifically kind of utilized for psychological effect.

Joe Rogan (3:23)

Just to fuck with people.

Ed Calderon (3:24)

Yeah. Make them not sleep. During these flower wars where they would have with the, I think the classical Tekken, they had this agreement where they would go and try and capture people to bring back to the pyramid to sacrifice. In a way, they would tire them is to blow those at night where they were encamped or the places where they were about to attack. So, lose sleep with those. Like a few hundred of those just.
