A few things happened until I saw you. One guy got shot.

Now, did he get shot? Because I've seen a lot of people talk about this like, no, he didn't get shot.

I saw, again, you would think that would be a clue, but I've seen things where they say, no, he didn't have any blood on him, and then he ducked down behind the podium just long enough. I'm thinking, are you fucking psycho? No, they are psycho. But then, to be fair, then, well, no, that can't be fair.

We heard gunshots, we saw a guy get shot who was shooting at him. The guy behind him got murdered. A couple other people got injured.

Life-changing injuries. Yes, serious injuries.

Mike Baker (1:13)

Yes, serious injuries. I mean, it 100% happened. To say it didn't happen is insane. And then you had Joy Reid on TV saying, well, Biden got over COVID, which is basically the same thing. People are losing their fucking minds and they're afraid. Everyone's afraid to be objective. Cause if you're objective, somehow or another you're helping the other side.

Yeah. Oh no. If you even try to walk a line that's somewhere near the middle of anything nowadays.

Yeah. Well, there you go then. You get your ass kicked. But I was telling Emily, I was telling my wife the other day that I consider that a really good thing. Because like, oh my god, this is like two minutes into it and I've already mentioned the podcast, The President's Daily Brief. Look, I'm getting much better at this.

On The President's Daily Brief, we try to just walk down the middle. We just tell you the news. Here's the top things that are happening. What I find is, I get angry messages from both sides because I'm not staking out a position.

I'm just saying, here's what's happening. For the most part, we try to avoid the context or the atmosphere, for the most part, but you're just pissing everybody off.

Mike Baker (2:20)

People want to get mad, first of all. That's the thing. Andrew Huberman was talking about that today, that the things that, when they study what excites people and what people gravitate towards, it's 100% more potent to get angry about things.

Joe Rogan (2:37)

Yeah, I think you're right. There must be some sort of chemical release in being outraged that makes people feel good.

Mike Baker (2:44)

I think it's in our wiring and our DNA because we always had to look out for threats. So you find things that you perceive are threats or things that are going to be a problem and you get angry about them and you do it on social media instead of in the jungle.

Joe Rogan (2:59)

Yeah, I think with the Trump thing though, I was surprised at how, because it was about a day and a half maybe, maybe it was 36 hours of, oh fuck, how could this happen?

Look what we created, this environment. We have to be more civil with each other. That was a big push from the Democrats. You remember Biden and Harris talking about, we've got to be more civil, we've got to dial it back and turn down the temperature. That lasted, for that side, that lasted almost no time at all.

Less than two days and they were back calling him a piece of shit and a liar.

Joe Rogan (3:34)

Yeah, and a threat to democracy and he's got to be stopped.

Mike Baker (3:37)

That's unbelievable.

And now to be fair, neither side really stuck to the idea. I would argue, if Trump had just said, you know what, from a strategic point of view, maybe it's not me, maybe it's not what I want to do, but from a strategic point of view, if after that attempt had happened and he had just walked that civil line and said, I've had a reflective moment, and if he had kept the high road, think about the disparity there, because the Democrats, first of all, they would have gone crazy because they wouldn't have been on what to do, but they also wouldn't have been able to help themselves, so they would have turned in the, they would have thrown the hand grenades again as usual, and then you would have had Trump over here be in the reasonable one and be in the reflective and civil one.
