Joe Rogan (0:12)
Mike Baker, it's very important that I ask you about this.
Mike Baker (0:14)
What's that?
Joe Rogan (0:15)
Because I know you're an expert on conflict. How do you feel about the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef?
Mike Baker (0:22)
Man, I am so glad you asked me about this. Because my boys, I got three boys, and all three of them have mentioned this in the past few days, right? And they want to talk about it, right? So Scooter will say, God, did you hear what he said? And I was like, honestly, no, I haven't. But they've all brought this up.
I am completely unfamiliar with the, although it sounds like the old days, East versus West, right? In the old rap battle.
Joe Rogan (0:47)
I think it's a personality thing because one of them is Toronto. So it's actually America versus Canada.
Mike Baker (0:53)
Oh, well, that's right.
Joe Rogan (0:54)
It was a real conflict there.
Mike Baker (0:56)
And which one is the little guy?
Joe Rogan (0:57)
Kendrick Lamar.
Mike Baker (0:58)
Kendrick Lamar. That's right.
So that's what my middle boy, Sluggo, said. I think he's like five foot one or something.
Joe Rogan (1:04)
He's not a big fella. Him and Drake have been going at it now. Four songs a piece.
So eight songs dedicated to beef.
Mike Baker (1:13)
I think that's fantastic. I think we need more of that, right? It's better than the Hamas conflict.
Joe Rogan (1:17)
Security guard injured in shooting outside Drake's home in Toronto.
Jamie (1:21)
Drive-by over there.
Joe Rogan (1:22)
Damn it.
Mike Baker (1:23)
Was it drive-by?
Jamie (1:24)
Yeah, and the security guard was outside, said he was shot, I think, unconsciously taken to the hospital.
Joe Rogan (1:29)
Oh my God. Don't think he died.
Mike Baker (1:31)
See, it was...
Joe Rogan (1:31)
Do not know whether the shooting was related. Well, take a fucking guess.
Mike Baker (1:36)
You think it was or was it?
Joe Rogan (1:37)
A drive-by might be related? Well, that's when shit gets scary, when people start shooting at each other.
Mike Baker (1:42)
Yeah. No, when it was just... Because, like, I think it was Slugger who told me that one of them... I think it must have been Drake who was talking about his...
He dissed him by talking about his size, seven feet or something, right?
And that's fine. I think it's great. If everybody would just like... If the Israelis and Hamas would go after each other in song...
Joe Rogan (1:59)
Battle raps.
Mike Baker (2:00)
Yeah, battle raps.
Joe Rogan (2:01)
Yeah, why not?
Mike Baker (2:01)
Yeah, dance off.
Joe Rogan (2:02)
That's how they should do it.
Mike Baker (2:03)
Yeah.
Joe Rogan (2:04)
This is... It's hilarious, but everybody's invested in this beef. My oldest daughter and my wife were in the car this morning, and they were having a conversation. These two grown ass women having a conversation about who's the superior rapper.
And they felt that Kendrick is a better lyricist, although Drake has more hits.
Mike Baker (2:23)
Drake has more hits.
Joe Rogan (2:24)
Started from the bottom, now we're here. I mean, look, he's got some bangers. They both have bangers. I love Kendrick Lamar.
I just wish these two would hug it out.
Mike Baker (2:32)
Yeah, well, now it's moved on to the firefight stage of the battle.
Joe Rogan (2:36)
Yeah, well, now they're shooting. What did you say, Jamie?
Jamie (2:38)
Kendrick's first big point was that it's 20 verse 1 because Drake has all those ghostwriters helping him make all these hits.
Joe Rogan (2:43)
Hmm, so that's an allegation in the rap community, apparently, that Drake hires ghostwriters. I don't know how I feel about that.
So I feel like the same way I feel like if I find out someone, there's a banging song, like Beyonce has a song out. I don't get upset if she didn't write it. Do you get upset?
Jamie (3:00)
It's mostly only in rap that people are like, you didn't write that.
Joe Rogan (3:03)
Like comedy, like comedy, like the same thing with comedy.
Jamie (3:06)
Country song, they don't care.
Joe Rogan (3:07)
Country, they do care.
Jamie (3:09)
Not really.
Joe Rogan (3:12)
Guys like Zack Bryan shine through because they write their own shit.
Jamie (3:16)
But it's very collaborative. The country is hugely collaborative. Sure.
Mike Baker (3:19)
Tennessee Whiskey, right? Tennessee Whiskey was a song.
Joe Rogan (3:21)
Oh, Chris Tableton.
Mike Baker (3:22)
Yeah. But he didn't write it and came out. I thought he did write it. No, it came out.
