Welcome back to the Siim Land Podcast. And in this episode, I'm going to actually be playing you a replay of me being on another podcast by John Woerner.

And we're going to talk about the hierarchy of health, or like what is my hierarchy of health and longevity, and what are the most important things that you need to focus on first.

So it was a good recording and a conversation, so I figured I would share it with you on my podcast as well. So yeah, check it out. This episode is brought to you by Biooptimizers' Magnesium Breakthrough. Almost every person is deficient in Magnesium because it's being depleted by stress, and on top of that, our foods are also much lower in Magnesium because of soil depletion. Bioptimizers has an amazing full-spectrum Magnesium supplement called Magnesium Breakthrough. It includes seven of the most important Magnesium types. What's up, guys? Welcome to the Swole-Listic Living Podcast. I'm your host, John Woerner, here with Siim Land.

What a guy, Siim. Nice to meet you.

Siim Land (1:03)

Nice to meet you too. I'm glad to talk with you.

John Woerner (1:06)

So today, I wanted to take you guys through a post that Siim made recently on his Instagram called the Hierarchy of Health. So for those of you that don't have a picture in front of you, it's a pyramid and, you know, it's a hierarchical structure.

I'm going to run through everything real quick and then we're going to kind of take it piece by piece. So the very bottom of the pyramid got sleep and circadian rhythms and time restricted eating, then nutrition and diet, then exercise and muscle, then stress management, having a purpose, hormetic stress, supplementation, and there's a little graphic at the top. Does that mean anything? It's a little heart?

Siim Land (1:45)

No, it's just a symbol of health and vitality.

John Woerner (1:51)

So we're going to kind of do this in a weird way. I want to take such a wealth of knowledge on so many things. I want to go through his daily routine and everything. So we're going to see if we can get it done.

Sleep and circadian rhythms. Why did you put that at the bottom?

Siim Land (2:05)

Yeah, well, I think in my opinion, sleep is probably one of the most important things for staying healthy and also just being optimized in terms of like your body composition and performance. So if your sleep is bad, then almost everything else in your health is also going to just fall off the rails eventually. Like sleep deprivation is associated with many chronic diseases like Alzheimer's, inter-resistance diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and yeah, just...

John Woerner (2:37)

It's literally like it's a cool and unusual punishment, you know, we can't even put people through sleep deprivation in prisons and stuff like that, like torture.

Siim Land (2:46)

Yeah, exactly. And it's very and you know, a lot of time people when they like they want to get in shape, they want to lose fat. Then it's Angela focus a lot on exercise and diet, which are important, but they more often than not neglect sleep.

And this is like this very big, like a stigma in society of I'll sleep when I'm dead and sleep is for the weak, etc, etc, which is like a huge misconception. And it's a very, it has a lot of consequences on your health and vitality. So like a lot of the times people may hit the plateau, they don't see any results.

And they, they wonder what is the problem? Like I'm doing everything right, and they may even think that is they need to push themselves harder, they need to have an extra workout, they need to drink more coffee or whatever it may be. Whereas in reality, they may actually just, they need to like sleep more and allow the body to recover because sleep is a time period where your body is recovering and repairing itself.

John Woerner (3:42)

So if you're making your testosterone in your sleep, you're making, you rebuild some of your neurotransmitters, your brain actually kind of washes the water around its neurons, your cerebral spinal fluid, and it circulates it through your glymphatic system and drains toxins and all that. I love sleep. Sleep is like my thing because I had insomnia from Lyme disease. Like real quick, my short story, didn't really care about health. Then I had a seizure in college, got diagnosed with Lyme disease and was like kind of had to figure it all out.
