Hello, and welcome to SideQuest. This is our weekly video game show here at GeekVerse. I am your host, Dylan Lestrade. The adventure is out there. Travis Snell, how are you doing tonight, my friend?
Travis Snell (0:29)
Doing good. It's a good day. Lots of fun things to talk about. But yeah, there's some interesting gaming stuff. So yeah, I guess that was a weird answer.
It was like this situation is good. I got busy life stuff going on. That's fair.
Dylan Lestrade (0:49)
That's also what happens when you're on your third cast in one night.
Travis Snell (0:53)
Yes.
Dylan Lestrade (0:54)
Sometimes the wheels are starting to loosen up.
Yeah, you're a little all thrilled, which is totally acceptable. But there was not one but two Nintendo Directs that happened this week. So we had to do a Sidequest episode to talk about them. And next week's episode will be about Friday 13th. Or sorry, not Friday 13th. What the hell is the game called?
Travis Snell (1:12)
Pretty much Halloween, which at the time when this drops, me and Taylor, if all goes well, on Thursday the 10th, 8:30 PM PST, we're going to stream it. I still haven't played it yet. This is going to be my first time. I had early access to it, so we're going to try to, just a few hours. We're going to try and do one of the weekends, but the weekends is not lining up for me. So we're going to do Thursday a few hours, and May we'll do it again. And then like we said before, that's going to get busted on those wee hours for the 24 hour stream, because I think those are, we had some fun times with Jason back in the day. So yeah, so same.
Dylan Lestrade (1:43)
Looking for that. Absolutely, yeah. But today, just a couple of Nintendo Directs, and then a little Kojima news, which is always fun to discuss. But yeah, let's kick it off, going right into the Directs. Again, as always, we kind of boil this down to the things that we are most excited about. So one, of course, was the 40th Anniversary Legend of Zelda Direct, which had all sorts of things in it. Even start with like, I guess it was like a pre-show where they were showing other games that are coming out, which is weird, considering there was another regular Direct the next day. I don't know why that was happening. I guess it was just on the stream to get people to buy a Fire Emblem who were tuning into this thing. But anyway, there was all sorts of stuff.
There was a Lego set, other merch, lots of merch. But really, the big juicy mama here is Ocarina of Time, the remake that we recently discussed.
Travis Snell (2:34)
Do we feel better now that you saw it?
Dylan Lestrade (2:37)
I do, and I don't, because I wish I had considered it as something that was on the table for that draft, because it didn't even seem like a thing for me. I didn't even know if it would come out this year, but here it is. It's coming out November before GTA, which is probably smart. A couple of weeks before hand. And we got a whole bunch of gameplay here. There's kind of two things. There was a trailer, or I guess there was a longer gameplay sequence with Young Link walking around doing some stuff. And then there was a trailer that showed some adult Link and some of the other sequences, a quick shot of different temples and things like that. So I feel like we've got a bit of a, between those two things, quite the vertical slice of all the different parts of this game. And yeah, it seems like it is a pretty, like it's a faithful remake in a sense, but also it's obviously was one of the first like 3D games that Nintendo ever made. And now there's a lot more technology and there's a lot more things filled in. They talk about like, oh, this building was a little tiny thing in the background. And now it's like a thing you can interact with and go into. And all these characters have more personality and all this other stuff. And I'm sure the controls will be much better. I'm sure the inventory system will be quicker and better. I'm sure the maps, all everything, all that stuff, I think is going to have touch ups to it, which seems really great, but overall is still the same game.
I feel like my first impression seeing this is that it felt fake. And I think like S-Bubs mentioned this in the Discord, that it felt like when you get like those 4K, like Unreal Engine, like Mario Clips or something like that.
