I have always thought that sweet and salty is one of those combinations that just makes sense, like something that can be perfectly good on its own, but add just a little salt to something sweet, and suddenly it's ten times better. So I was very excited when Kachava came out with their new flavor, salted caramel. Caramel is already good, but that little bit of salt just makes the whole thing work. And what I love about Kachava is that it's not just something that tastes good. Two scoops give you plant-based protein, fiber, greens, and so much more in one really simple shake. It's an easy way to help fill some of those nutritional gaps, especially on days when you're busy and just need something quick. And there aren't any artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. It's just clean nutrition that actually tastes delicious. Embrace your salty side. Go to kachava.com and use code 1000HOURS for 15% off your first order. That's Kachava spelled kachava.com.
Code 1000HOURS.
One thing I think a lot about as a parent is just how different the food environment is for our kids than it was even a generation ago. So many foods are ultra-processed and even something like a kid's vitamin can have a surprising amount of sugar and artificial ingredients. That's one reason we've really appreciated Haya. Instead of making another gummy that's basically candy, Haya makes a zero sugar chewable vitamin with 15 essential vitamins and minerals plus a blend of 12 organic fruits and vegetables. And most importantly, in our house, the kids actually like them. I also love how simple they make it. Your first order will come with this really fun, reusable bottle the kids can decorate with stickers. And then Haya sends refills every month and Haya takes testing seriously. Their vitamins are NSF certified, have received the Clean Label Project's highest purity award certification, and every batch is third-party tested for heavy metals and contaminants. You can find Haya at Target stores nationwide, or we have a special deal for you online. Give 50% off your first order on any Haya product at hayahealth.com/1000hours.
That deal isn't available on their regular website, so go to hiyahealth.com/1000hours, and get your kids the full body support they deserve.
My name is Ginny Yurich, I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, and I have a special guest here today. And we're gonna be talking, if you've been around for a while, if this is the first time that you've ever listened to the podcast, this might seem kind of like an odd one. But if you've been around for a while, you know that we have some institutional church things in our past, and it's affected our family quite a bit, even years later. Still, there's the underlying effects, and it also affects how we live our day-to-day life and all of those things. And there's a man named Tim St. John, who's written a book. Timothy St. John is what it says on the book, but Tim or Timothy, Timothy St. John, who wrote a book called After Church Hurt, Healing and the Care of the Good Shepherd. And it's kind of a short one, which I kind of like, because if you're in the middle of hurt and suffering, you're like, oh, I don't know if I can make it through 300 pages or something. And so, Timothy, I'm really honored to have the chance to talk with you and interested to hear a little bit more about your story. So, welcome to you.
Tim St. John (3:13)
Oh, thanks so much, Ginny. Thank you for having me, and I'm excited to be here today.

So, you're a counseling pastor at a church in California. I've never heard of a counseling pastor, so can we start there?
Tim St. John (3:25)
Yeah, so first, I feel like the best thing for me to explain is what I'm not. Like, our counseling ministry that I oversee is not the bucket that all the problems in the church go into because I don't want that job.
What we really are is we are a place, or sort of a refuge in the church for people who are facing seasons of great suffering or maybe real struggles with sin. And we want to make sure discipleship is happening in those seasons. And we just need a friend in the difficult spots of life to point us to Christ, to use scripture to be a lamp to our feet, a light to our path, to point us to Christ. But it is also meant to draw in the body of Christ. So we help organize care groups. We organize, we help people that are already in their community understand the burdens they're carrying, the temptations they're wrestling through, so that their closest friends are actually the ones who do the longest care. And we're there just for a time fixed period to really help not only care for them, but equip their closest community.
