I have always thought that sweet and salty is one of those combinations that just makes sense, like something that can be perfectly good on its own, but add just a little salt to something sweet, and suddenly it's 10 times better. So I was very excited when Kachava came out with their new flavor, salted caramel. Caramel is already good, but that little bit of salt just makes the whole thing work. And what I love about Kachava is that it's not just something that tastes good. Two scoops give you plant-based protein, fiber, greens, and so much more in one really simple shake. It's an easy way to help fill some of those nutritional gaps, especially on days when you're busy and just need something quick. And there aren't any artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. It's just clean nutrition that actually tastes delicious. Embrace your salty side. Go to kachava.com and use code 1000 hours for 15% off your first order. That's kachava, spelled kachava.com.

Welcome to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast. My name is Ginny Yurich. I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, and I'm honored to have a guest back for the second time. The last time we talked about his book, it's called Redeeming Your Time. And wow, do we want to redeem our time. And he has a new book out. It is called Redeeming Your Goals, which is a beautiful title because actually goals can be very distressing, I think. Seven biblical principles for achieving your goals with Christ-like confidence, consistency, and character. Jordan Raynor, welcome back.

Hey Ginny, thanks for having me back.

I loved this one because you kicked it off by talking about how some of your goals were crushing you. And I thought this was a really interesting way to talk about goals. I think we're pushed to have them, we're pushed to have them make the most of your life, have goals, grow. But no one ever really talks about the downside of the fact that actually they can be really hard.
Jordan Raynor (2:44)
Yeah, yeah, for sure. And listen, like, I love goals. I just wrote this book, right?
I have had those seasons. I remember a few years ago, I was driving home from my favorite coffee shop when this thought hit me that hasn't hit me since and really took me by surprise. I was not suicidal, but the idea of a car t-boning mine and forcing me to rest for a few months sounded pretty good.
I'd sign up for that, right? And when it happened, I had just completed this weekly review of my goals. And listen, on the one hand, like I had a ton to be thankful for, right? I just signed my ninth book deal with the world's largest publisher. My kids were thriving, et cetera, et cetera. So I was crushing a lot of my goals. But as you said, a lot of these goals were crushing me. Right before I hopped in my car, I was reminded of a significant amount of money I had lost on a strategy that didn't pan out at work. I had failed again at this fitness goal despite following my plan and on and on the disappointments went. But there was something like way, way, way deeper, I think, going on in that car ride beyond the failures. I felt a deep shame over wasting time on things that didn't work. I felt overwhelmed that I, of course, love to blame on other people, but honestly was mostly self-imposed. And most of all, as a Jesus follower, I felt this tremendous guilt knowing intellectually that God loves me in my most and my least productive seasons, and yet living as if what Christ accomplished for me on the cross was not enough. So clearly, what qualifies me to write a book called Redeeming Your Goals is not that I've got this whole thing figured out. I think what qualifies me is that I understand your pain.
