Hello, friends, welcome back to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast. Today is my birthday, and I scheduled an incredible meaningful episode to specifically come out today. Dr. Charles Fay from Love and Logic is here, and this one is really special to me. I found Love and Logic when I was in my early 20s and teaching high school. I wasn't even a mom yet, and those books completely changed the way I approached interacting with kids. I learned that you can deal with teenagers without being angry. I learned I could be in a peaceful classroom environment and didn't need to use yelling or lecturing. I began practicing the Love and Logic approach that combines empathy with natural consequences, and then I became a mom. We have five kids now, and I really don't know what our family would look like if I hadn't found those books all those years ago.
Love and Logic changed the trajectory of our family. So getting to have this conversation with Dr. Charles Fay was such a full circle moment for me. I was so excited. His new book is called Raising Spiritually Strong Kids, and I absolutely loved it. I hope this episode gives you some of what Love and Logic gave me all those years ago. Here is Dr. Charles Fay.
I have always thought that sweet and salty is one of those combinations that just make sense, like something that can be perfectly good on its own, but add just a little salt to something sweet, and suddenly it's 10 times better. So I was very excited when Kachava came out with their new flavor, salted caramel.
Caramel is already good, but that little bit of salt just makes the whole thing work. And what I love about Kachava is that it's not just something that tastes good. Two scoops give you plant-based protein, fiber, greens, and so much more in one really simple shake. It's an easy way to help fill some of those nutritional gaps, especially on days when you're busy and just need something quick. And there aren't any artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. It's just clean nutrition that actually tastes delicious. Embrace your salty side. Go to kachava.com and use code 1000HOURS for 15% off your first order. That's kachava, spelled kachava.com, code 1000HOURS.

My name is Ginny Yurich. I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, and I have just read a book that I loved. I absolutely loved. It's a beautiful book as well. It's called Raising Spiritually Strong Kids, How to Apply Biblical Principles with Love and Logic to Bring Up Children Who Live with Authentic Faith. I have been a love and logic fan for decades, and so I am so thrilled. I was so excited. I don't know if I've ever been more excited for a podcast episode. Dr. Charles Fay is here. I'm like emotional.
The love and logic has changed the whole trajectory of our family. I'm already crying. Welcome to you.

Okay. I've got to pull myself together. I'm going to tell you just a little bit of my backstory, even though I don't normally talk a lot off the top. But I was a teacher, so before I became a mom, I was a teacher, and I started at 21 I went through school, I started at 21 I taught in the inner city my first year. I taught junior high, and then the next couple of years, I taught math in a different district, and it was high school. So I taught everything from basic math all the way through. Those are kids who are in ninth grade and hate math, and you got 35 of them. And at some point, before I started, I came across Love and Logic for teachers.
