Hey, friends, welcome back to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast. I'm Ginny Yurich, and I'm really glad you're here.

Whether you've listened to five episodes or 500, I do not take it for granted that you choose to spend some of your time with me. There are so many things competing for our attention, and the fact that you keep showing up for these conversations is the best. If this podcast has encouraged you, taught you something, introduced you to a book that you loved or just kept you company somewhere along the way, would you leave a review? It takes a minute or two and is a huge help to the show. I read each one and they are super encouraging. And while you're there, make sure you're following the show, because tomorrow Dr. Mitch Prinstein is joining us, and we're talking about something that affects us from childhood all the way through adulthood, popularity. There are actually two very different kinds of popularity, and the one we tend to chase isn't necessarily the one that gives us the life or relationships we actually want. It is a fascinating conversation. Today, we have the inspiring Jon Gordon. We've actually been trying to get Jon on this podcast for a couple of years, and then in the strangest turn of events, I randomly met him in person just days before this interview finally came together. Jon has written more than 30 books, including The Energy Bus, which has sold millions of copies. His newest book is called The Power of Positive Habits.

This conversation is about the energy we bring into our homes, our work, our relationships, and our own lives, and remembering that our energy is contagious. Here is Jon Gordon.

You know, there are so many little things we do as parents to help our kids sleep well. We get them outside, keep them moving, try to limit screens at night. But one thing I hadn't thought much about was how they're actually breathing while they sleep. A lot of parents don't realize their kids may be sleeping with their mouths open, and persistent mouth breathing can be associated with restless sleep, dry mouth, moodiness, oral health concerns, and even development. That is where Muzzle Kids Tape comes in.

It is a simple bedtime tool designed to greatly encourage lip closure and support nasal breathing. What I really like as a mom is their patented Breathe Safe Center Opening. It doesn't completely seal the mouth, so there's still room to talk, cough, sneeze, or drink water if needed. They make Muzzle for adults too, so it can be a simple nighttime habit for the whole family. Go to muzzlesleep.com and use code 1000HOURS for 10% off. That's muzzlesleep.com, promo code 1000HOURS.

I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside. And today, I bring to you the incredibly accomplished, the incredibly encouraging and inspiring, the incredibly wise Jon Gordon. Welcome.

Jon Gordon (3:43)

Ginny, so great to be with you. You are amazing.

Ginny Yurich (3:46)

Okay, so here is the story.

We've actually been going after you for a couple years, which I'm sure that you don't know, because it's like always through admin and things like that. And about a week ago, it was finally like, oh, well, hey, something might happen with Jon Gordon. And on, I think, the same day, we met in person. I was in Tennessee for John A. Cuffey at an event called Stage and Page was fantastic. He knocked it out of the park and there was a dinner at a hotel and you were there with your wife. You were in town for a wedding.

Jon Gordon (4:19)

How cool is that? So we walk by and we see this little cafe. We want to go in there. And then we realize, oh, there's a private party. And then we see that John A. Cuff is the host of the party. And I'm like, oh, John's a friend. Like, should we say hi? And I'm like, no, I don't want to bother. And my wife's like, no, we got to go in and say hi.

So I go in and I say hi and we hugged. And so I'm glad he was happy to see me. And then you were there too, which was awesome. And then we met. So it really was, you know, synchronistic how it happened. I think it was a God thing that we were meant to meet in that moment. I thought it was so fun and so cool. I just loved your energy right away. And seeing John, of course, was great. And yeah, I love what he has done with that event. He's just such a great guy. Such a great friend.
