There are so many things we think about when we think about our kids' future. What will they become? Who will they marry? Where will they live? What will our family look like 10, 20, 30 years from now? And somewhere along the way, we realize that planning for their future also means planning for the possibility that life doesn't go exactly the way we hope. That's why we have life insurance. Not because we live afraid of what might happen. Actually, it's the opposite. It gives us peace of mind, knowing that if something happened to one of us, the other wouldn't suddenly be trying to figure out how to support five kids while also dealing with unimaginable loss. If you've been putting this off, Ethos makes getting life insurance remarkably simple. It's 100% online. You can get a quote in seconds, apply in minutes, and potentially get same-day coverage. There's no medical exam, just a few simple health questions. You can get up to $3 million in coverage with some policies as low as $30 a month. You spend your whole life taking care of your family. This is one more way to take care of their future. Take 10 minutes to get covered today with life insurance through Ethos. Get a free quote at ethos.com/1000hours.

I'm the founder of 1000Hours Outside. And I've been looking forward to this conversation before I even ever had a podcast, because I love this book from 2012, but it is a phenomenal book. It's called Your Brain on Nature.
Even, I mean, I have read so many nature books, and this one covers so many areas that just are not touchy touchy. It's called Your Brain on Nature, The Science of Nature's Influence on Your Health, Happiness and Vitality. And author, Dr. Eva Selhub is here, but she also has tons of other books, as well as incredible courses. She does business coaching, and is currently the Chief of Medical Affairs at For Humanity. Dr. Eva, welcome.
**Dr. Eva Selhub** (1:45)
Thank you so much for having me.
**Ginny Yurich** (1:48)
Thank you for saying yes. Before we kick it off and talk about this book, which is all about the benefits of getting outside and all these studies, can you tell us about your pioneering physician, a resilience expert? I love your approach to business coaching. You say, hey, you've built an exceptional career, but maybe your health is suffering.
Which that happens, and you say, look, I can help you with your body and your mind. They're telling you something needs to change. But can you tell us where you're at now? Because I know it's been over a decade since this book came out.
What are some of the current things that you're working on?
**Dr. Eva Selhub** (2:25)
Oh, gosh, where do I begin? We only have an hour.
Look, everything I've done from being in medicine, to being in mind-body medicine, to creating my own practice where I merged Eastern medicine together, to the executive coaching that I do, and performance enhancement as in like mind-body performance enhancement. So it all continues in just different forms. And so I'm still doing the executive coaching, and it's more than just obviously health, it's really an all-around perspective and the ability to work with people, discover what their obstacles are, to be able to guide them to self-heal, so that they can flourish no matter what they're doing. So whether flourishing at home, flourishing in their physical life, and flourishing as a professional, as a CEO, as a leader, and so on and so forth. So that's part of what I do. I also work for a company that's called For Humanity, as you mentioned, we're a new medical technology company. And so we are wanting to deliver medicine differently than it's being done, right? To take a really holistic approach using functional medicine, my work in mind-body medicine, and have it be a source where people can really trust the source. Like we're telling you what you need to know. This is how the body works. This is what you might want to do.
Creating medications that are delivered in a way that bypass the gut, so you don't destroy 60 percent of it. So you can use smaller doses and it works faster and less side effects, that sort of thing. So we're really trying to be human-centric versus commerce-centric. So that's very exciting. Of course, working with a lot of other people on bringing the concept of unitive love into everything that we do, which was my first book, which is called The Love Response.
**Ginny Yurich** (4:32)
Yes. Yes, there's a lot of books. There's a lot of book options. The Love Response, Stress Management Handbook, Your Health Destiny, Burnout for Dummies, Resilience for Dummies. There's this one. There's a book called The Secret Life of Your Microbiome. We're going to be focusing today on your brain on nature, but you also offer a 10-week course on mastering resilience. I think this is a day in age when we need resilience quite a bit. Life is changing fast and then you have meditations on your website too. So I'm going to put links to everything so that people can find it. But like you said, there's a commonalities with all of the different things, which is just this whole body health and thriving and flourishing.
