There are so many things we think about when we think about our kids' future. What will they become? Who will they marry? Where will they live? What will our family look like 10, 20, 30 years from now? And somewhere along the way, we realize that planning for their future also means planning for the possibility that life doesn't go exactly the way we hope. That's why we have life insurance. Not because we live afraid of what might happen. Actually, it's the opposite. It gives us peace of mind, knowing that if something happened to one of us, the other wouldn't suddenly be trying to figure out how to support five kids while also dealing with unimaginable loss. If you've been putting this off, Ethos makes getting life insurance remarkably simple. It's 100% online. You can get a quote in seconds, apply in minutes, and potentially get same-day coverage. There's no medical exam, just a few simple health questions. You can get up to $3 million in coverage with some policies as low as $30 a month. You spend your whole life taking care of your family. Welcome to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast.
I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside. And I have a guest on today that everybody needs to know about because he has founded this company that has all sorts of products. But these are products that help when you get your kids outside. They have become the go to in our family. We started off with the Active Skin Repair product where, you know, it's like you have these salves and lotions and this thing and that thing. And you're like, all you need is one thing. It's been wonderful for our family. Justin Gardner, welcome. Thank you so much.
**Justin Gardner** (1:36)
It's an honor to be here. I'm really excited.
**Ginny Yurich** (1:39)
Okay. So we're going to talk about the original Active Skin Repair. But then you have branched out. You offer all sorts of things. Sunscreen. There's a lot of options here. But, you know, we are the type of family that, you know, we're trying to get outside. People who are listening are trying to get outside. And kids fall and they get scraped and they get bug bites and they get, you know, a little bit too much sun. They get windburn. They get all these different things. And you're constantly juggling how to deal with it. And you discovered, founded this product that basically works for everything. It's non-toxic and it mimics the body's natural healing system. Maybe I said that correctly. You can correct me if I'm wrong. What's your backstory? I know that you've made a bunch of different medical products.
**Justin Gardner** (2:23)
Sure. So, it was about 10 years ago.
I owned an agency and we would help launch products into the hospital systems. Generally, really expensive regenerative medicine products like bioengineered tissues.
And while I was running that agency, a company, a medical device company came to me and they said, we want you to help launch this technology called hyperchloroacin into the hospital space. And I'll explain what hyperchloroacin is in a minute. But I got that opportunity to launch it in. I started reading all the clinicals and I really started to understand how this really kind of simple formulation that was so powerful could be used. And long story short, I've always been a huge outdoors person and just always loved outdoors. And I started to take this product with me all over the place when I was going on surf trips and mountain biking and hiking and all these different things. And I went back to that company and I said, hey, you're launching this into the hospital side, but what are you doing for the over the counter? And they had an FDA clearance for over the counter and they said nothing. We're just focused on the hospital side. And so that was kind of where I went back and I said, well, I'm going to start Active Skin Repair and take this technology to consumers who can buy it over the counter and not just have to be used in a hospital. And so that was the start of Active Skin Repair 10 years ago.

Okay. And so like you said, and this is what I love about it as just a regular mom. We've got five kids, all different ages and stages. You're like, I take it surfing. I take it mountain biking. It is the thing. And you don't have to have a bunch of different things. So it's so unbelievably convenient. And there's like a spray and there's a gel version. And so, you know, all of these different types, all kids are different. They like the different consistencies of things. It's just been a fantastic addition to our family for several years. And in fact, I've got this friend, her name is Shana Holmim. She has an account called A Little Less Toxic. And so she had this book that came out recently. And I, you know, I was reading it.
