Okay, so I would love if you would kick us off with your story here that you have been interested in nature and filming and creating and writing and hosting all the way back to age 17

**Peter Schriemer** (1:38)
Yes, well, I guess we it goes even back further than that in the sense that I was homeschooled actually K through 12
And so that was being homeschooled back in the 80s and in 90s. And so my mom was a pioneer in some of that homeschooling world when there weren't nearly the same types of resources and support that there is now. And so she encouraged me very early on to be outside to do exploratory learning, hands on stuff, field trips, asking questions, checking stuff out. That's how I learned. That's how I grew up. And that really fostered inside of me a love of being outside, a love of curiosity, a love of exploration and adventure. And that's how I learned. And so naturally that translated into I wanted to go into nature and focus on like that for a career in my life. And so when my parents got a video camera, when I was a young teenager, I started filming animals and nature and backyard stuff all the time. And I grew up watching nature programs on TV. And so again, I was like, I want to be like one of these guys who does nature TV shows and teaches other kids about how to explore and what's cool and what you can do. So that was sort of my childhood. That's what inspired me. And then when I was 17, when I was a teenager, I decided I wanted to be a wildlife filmmaker. That's what I wanted to go do. And so I went to school for a film and video. But when I was 17, my brother and I shot a pilot episode or a test episode of a show that I put together and I wrote. And we shot this whole thing. And I showed it to a production company that was local, where I was growing up and wanted to know if I could learn how to edit, learn how to be a production assistant. Basically, how do you do the video production world? And they saw the video that my brother and I had done. And I was actually 16 at the time and he was 13
And so my 13-year-old brother, cameraman, was working with me. And we put this thing together. And they looked at it and they're like, hey, this could actually be a nature show. Do you want to work with us to maybe turn this into something? So I worked for them as a production assistant learning the business, so to speak, for a year. And they in turn learned me in terms of how should we develop the show, how should we put this together. So a year later, we filmed this half hour video that aired on PBS and won a National Broadcasters Award.
