This episode is sponsored by Fora Travel. I've always been the person people come to for travel advice, whether it's planning a camping trip in northern Michigan, figuring out how to travel well with kids across the country, or finding experiences that actually help families connect, instead of just filling an itinerary. I genuinely have loved helping people create meaningful adventures, and I know a lot of you listening are probably that person too. The friend who plans the trip, the one who researches the details, the one person people trust to find the hidden gems and make everything run smoothly. Fora is built for people exactly like that. Fora is a modern travel agency that helps people build their own travel business, no matter what stage of life they're in. You don't need prior experience because Fora gives you the training technology and support to help you get started, and you're joining a community of people who are building businesses centered around experiences, relationships, and helping others travel well. A lot of advisors begin simply by helping people they already know and grow naturally from there. What I also appreciate is that there are no sales quotas or minimums. You can build this at a pace that works for your life and your family. Your next act starts here. Become a FORA advisor today at foratravel.com/1000hours. That's foratravel.com/1000hours.

Welcome to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast. My name is Ginny Yurich. I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, and I'm honored to have a friend here today talking about her book. It's called Courageous Divorce, A Christian Woman's Guide to Healing, Rebuilding and Embracing an Abundant Life. Alisha Roth, congratulations and welcome.

Thank you. So good to be here, Ginny. Thank you for having me.

**Ginny Yurich** (1:35)
You are an incredible writer. Has a lot of people said that to you?

**Alisha Roth** (1:39)
Thank you. I have heard that, but being a writer is good to hear that. Thank you.

**Ginny Yurich** (1:45)
Yeah.
What I loved about the book, there's a lot of things I love about the book. And if you are going through divorce or if you've gone through divorce, obviously, this is a great resource to find healing and answers and ideas, both practical and philosophical. But I also found you did such a masterful job, Alisha, of taking these sort of human experiences where we have something happen in our life that we didn't want to. Like you're talking about your marriage. I don't think anybody gets married thinking or hoping or expecting that it's going to dissolve. And there are a lot of situations in life where things happen and you find yourself sort of at the, I don't know, like in a spot that you never wanted to be in. And possibly it's not your fault at all and all your hopes and dreams are shattered. And so the book also helps you to walk through like those shattered expectations and how to handle them. So did you know that that was going to happen?

**Alisha Roth** (2:40)
Yeah, thank you.
I guess in a way, actually one of the things that my agent really helped me to do as I was getting ready to send this book idea off to different publishers, was she helped me to really narrow down my focus of who I was writing to, because I'm the kind of person that kind of want it to be for everybody. You know, she's like, you know, like this is probably more for women than men because that's your experience. And you know, it's probably going to be for Christians because that is your experience. And so in a way, I was narrowing my audience. And I know I was speaking to a certain kind of person. But at the same time, I think you're right that as you know, the older we get, the more we realize we all go through these hard experiences in life. And even though they are different hard experiences, we can relate in the difficulty of them, the work it takes to heal from them. And I think there's a lot of similarity in that experience.

**Ginny Yurich** (3:40)
I love that you said that, that you're in your heart, you're like, I want this book to be for everyone. And of course, then in this day and age, you got to narrow your focus. But that is really what I got out of it. I was like, this wisdom permeates. So an example, and we'll talk about more of this later, but you had this time now where your kids are with your ex-husband, and this is brand new, and this happens, maybe it's a week-long summer vacation and now you're alone. And what you decided to do was you decided to go and visit all of these national parks or state parks, you're getting outside, it's like what makes you thrive. And that is wisdom that you could apply in any type of a situation where you're in a situation that you really didn't want to happen, but what can I do that I love that's going to help me thrive and get through this. And so you ended up, I mean, I thought there was so much of it that you could apply to so many other types of situations. But let's talk about the divorce in particular.
