This episode is sponsored by Fora Travel. I've always been the person people come to for travel advice, whether it's planning a camping trip in northern Michigan, figuring out how to travel well with kids across the country, or finding experiences that actually help families connect instead of just filling an itinerary. I genuinely have loved helping people create meaningful adventures. And I know a lot of you listening are probably that person too. The friend who plans the trip, the one who researches the details, the one person people trust to find the hidden gems and make everything run smoothly. Fora is built for people exactly like that. Fora is a modern travel agency that helps people build their own travel business, no matter what stage of life they're in. You don't need prior experience because Fora gives you the training technology and support to help you get started. And you're joining a community of people who are building businesses centered around experiences, relationships, and helping others travel well. A lot of advisors begin simply by helping people they already know and grow naturally from there. What I also appreciate is that there are no sales quotas or minimums. You can build this at a pace that works for your life and your family. Your next act starts here. Become a Fora advisor today at foratravel.com/1000hours.

Welcome to The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast. My name is Ginny Yurich. I'm the founder of 1000 Hours Outside. And back today, this is a really cool follow up because when we talked before, you were in the final stages of writing this book that we're going to talk about today, but it wasn't out yet. And I was like, Oh, I'm so excited. Maybe we can have another conversation when the book comes out. Joshua Becker, the book, the new book is called Uncluttered Faith, Own Less, Love More, Make an Impact in Your World. Get it at christianbook.com. Joshua, welcome.

**Joshua Becker** (1:44)
Well, thank you. I am so excited about the book. I'm so excited about you and getting to be on again. You're always my favorite podcast to be on. So thank you. I love getting to talk some more.

**Ginny Yurich** (1:56)
The timing worked out really well on my end because we make this connection and you got another book coming out soon. I was like, oh, we're going to get to have a second conversation. This book is so good. I took so many notes on it. This is about how when we pursue being more minimalist, that this can help our faith. I know this summer coming up, the book came out in February, this summer coming up, you're speaking at churches all over the place. I think you said you have 28 churches lined up.
Can you talk about how the church is receiving this message? Is there some feather ruffling or is it mostly positive? Is there a mix?

**Joshua Becker** (2:32)
I think it has been incredibly positive. Very, very positive.
Maybe when I leave the room, feathers are being ruffled, but they don't seem to be ruffling in front of me.
But Ginny, I have talked about owning less for 17 or 18 years and the number of people who come up to me after I explain what I mean and say, that's wrong, this is totally out of left field, I would never want anything to do with that, is pretty minimal number. But when you explain how owning less frees up our life for more important things, it makes sense for most people. And I think the way this book has been received, I spent my whole life hearing sermons about how consumerism was evil and materialism was bad, but they never seem to really resonate with me. And so Uncluttered Faith takes a very different, a positive, an invitational approach. Just think about all the good spiritual things that can happen in our lives when we own less. And so it's been well received and people read it and pass it on to their pastors and pass it on to their friends. And when can we start the small group and all that. So thank you.

**Ginny Yurich** (3:53)
That's fantastic. Uncluttered Faith, you talk in this book about the consumeristic society, consumeristic society that we live in and that we're swimming in it. We're swimming in a culture of materialism and that most of us have never lived a life outside of this, which is, I mean, that would be my case. You know, I've never lived differently. I've never, our oldest son just went on a missions trip, but like I haven't done that. So can you talk about that? That's a problem because you don't even have any framework that it could be different. So can you talk about what is the step to get people to think differently? Like this, this is maybe an anomaly. This isn't how it's always been throughout history. This isn't how people live around the world. Look at this situation differently.
