It's like, how can you expect to learn to drive a car from someone that's only ever read to drive a car via a book?

Whereas if he's driven a car, you're going to trust them to teach you to drive a car, and I think it's the same with the body as well. And it's your responsibility to take control of your own health, it really is.

Welcome to the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land, and our guest today is Tim Gray. Tim is an entrepreneur and biohacker from the UK. He's also the founder of the Health Optimization Summit in London. We're going to talk about how to stay healthy when living in urban environments and large cities. This episode is brought to you by KAATSU Training. KAATSU bands incorporate blood flow moderation training that trick the body into thinking that it's lifting heavier weights than it actually is. When traditional weight lifting requires you to reach 70 to 80% of your one repetition maximum to stimulate muscle hypertrophy, then KAATSU achieve that effect only at 20 to 30%. So it's perfect for treating injuries or use when you don't have access to heavy weights. Research about KAATSU bands also shows it lowers blood pressure, speeds up recovery from injuries, releases stem cells, builds muscle, burns fat and prevents age-related muscle loss.

These things are a game changer and I use them almost every day. If you want to try out the KAATSU Cycle bands, then use the code SIM for a 10% discount at kautsuglobal.com. That's kautsuglobal.com and the 10% code is SIM, S-I-I-M.

Jim, how are you?

Tim Gray (1:41)

I'm very well, mate. Thank you.

Siim Land (1:45)

Yeah, I'm doing great as well. And it's glad to connect with you again from the interwebs.

The last time we saw in person was like in London in February, and it was like right before the coronavirus mayhem kicked off. So how did you get through the quarantine period?

Tim Gray (2:06)

It was awesome. It's actually really awesome. One of the most productive times of my life.

I moved house twice and set up a home gym and got all the biohacks that I could trip over all day every day. So I really got knuckled down and worked really hard. How about for you?

Siim Land (2:28)

Well, for me, it's also like pretty much like a very vacation or something like I'm already living in the countryside and I don't have responsibilities in a big city or something like that. So I'm always able to go out, walk in nature, get outside and that sort of thing. So I wasn't confined in some sort of an apartment or something. So those are like really, really good time to just focus on being productive and yet kind of disconnect from the large crowds, so to say.

Tim Gray (3:03)

Yeah, it's really interesting. Actually, I'm glad I had a garden at both places that I stayed at because I spent pretty much every day grounding, playing on my laptop, working, Instagramming, building stuff from the garden barefoot or in shorts. And I think I don't think I would have been too happy if I'd been stuck in an apartment in the center of a city, opposed to on the edge of a city with a garden. So yeah, it's actually going to make a massive change in people's house habits. I've seen that they're looking at trends of people are looking at cottages and countryside and moving out of the cities as a result of this.

So it's really nice to see everyone's going to be connecting with nature a little bit more.

Siim Land (3:43)

Yeah, like the living in a big city is pretty difficult nowadays, and it's going to become even more uncomfortable and just a hassle. So I would imagine that people are moving away from these centers, and they can work from home and they can use the internet, so there's no real reason to stay there anyway.

Tim Gray (4:10)

Yeah, I looked at a place in Cornwall, next to the sea in England, and I was thinking I might end up moving down there and just having a little apartment in London, where you just drive up for a couple of days a week, which would be nice, or even moving abroad somewhere a little bit more natural. And I think with the whole interweb stuff, it's so easy to connect with people. Look at you on a little island in the middle of nowhere, and it's like you still continue to do, if not better than a lot of people, productivity-wise, nature-wise, biohacking-wise, the whole lot.
