Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Today, returning guest, my wife, Stef Bare.

Stef Bare (0:15)

Hello.

Nick Bare (0:17)

Caviar cowboy, that's what your hat says. Yeah. You have good taste. What does that mean?

Stef Bare (0:22)

You know, everyone always asks me when I have this hat on, and it's just a brand.

Nick Bare (0:27)

Because it's typically cowboy caviar, right? The dip that you make.

Stef Bare (0:32)

What does it say?

Nick Bare (0:33)

Caviar cowboy.

Stef Bare (0:34)

Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's just a brand. Fun little brand.

Their hats are great.

Nick Bare (0:38)

You have good taste.

Stef Bare (0:40)

Good structure, right amount of trucker, snapback.

Nick Bare (0:45)

All right. I like it.

Stef Bare (0:47)

Thank you. Thanks for having me back.

Nick Bare (0:50)

Thank you for making the time. All right, first thing I want to talk about, US Open. Tell me about it.

You didn't see that one coming. Didn't add that one to the notes that I shared with you.

Stef Bare (1:02)

I am in the world of the US Open.

Nick Bare (1:06)

Oh, I know. I know. I've been going to bed alone lately.

Stef Bare (1:08)

Last night, I feel, last night, I was like, maybe this is what it feels like in a marriage when the man loves sports and the wife just wants attention.

Nick Bare (1:18)

Yeah, we had a little tiff last night.

Stef Bare (1:20)

Reverse.

Nick Bare (1:21)

Because I was laying in bed waiting to go to bed with my wife and you're out on the couch watching tennis. Yeah.

Stef Bare (1:28)

I can't explain the obsession. You got to admit though, you sat for a little bit yesterday.

Nick Bare (1:34)

I mean, that girl is a tank.

Stef Bare (1:36)

Which one? Arena.

Nick Bare (1:38)

Yeah. Animal.

Stef Bare (1:40)

It was just good timing because I've been sick. So I've been on the couch a lot and I just, it just so happened to be on and this just so happened to be the first year that I am a tennis player and man, it is addicting. Like, I love sports.

I do. I love watching sports.

Nick Bare (2:05)

That makes one of us.

Stef Bare (2:06)

It does, but someone's got to do it. But I mean, I just, I love a cultural moment when everyone can come together.

I love the stories of each players, their personalities. And then the tennis is just so high level, you cannot even comprehend it. It is so fun to watch. And I've learned a lot about, because the scoring of tennis is very complicated as a beginner like myself. And it's really taught me a lot. So I am ready to get back on the court. It's been two and a half weeks.

Nick Bare (2:35)

You're playing today, right?

Stef Bare (2:37)

I'm going to go and support my friends. We'll see. Might throw a few serves.

Nick Bare (2:43)

Take it easy. Stef is recovering from pneumonia right now.

Stef Bare (2:47)

Yeah.

Nick Bare (2:48)

We had a crazy month of travel in August. We all got sick.

Stef Bare (2:51)

Blue and then pneumonia. Yeah.

Nick Bare (2:53)

So we're all, the whole family is in recovery right now. I don't like regular season sports. But I have a growing appreciation for US Open, World Cup, Masters, Kentucky Derby.

Never watched it, but I want to go.

Stef Bare (3:11)

What are you talking about, the Masters? You didn't watch the Masters this year.

Nick Bare (3:14)

I didn't watch the Masters, but I have an appreciation for the Masters. Because they're moments. I would like to be there.

Stef Bare (3:18)

Yes. Yeah. And next year, we're going to the US Open.

Nick Bare (3:21)

Yes.

Stef Bare (3:23)

We have to.

Nick Bare (3:24)

I find interest in these celebrations of the elite throwing down at the best of the best.

Stef Bare (3:34)

Yeah.

Nick Bare (3:34)

But I don't find interest in regular season stuff.

Stef Bare (3:38)

No, I get that. Football is on every week. It's kind of anti-climatic until the end. But when you have tournament style events, like the US Open, it is exciting. It is so exciting.

I can see why people gamble.

Nick Bare (3:54)

Maybe you should get into sport betting.

Stef Bare (3:57)

No. No, no, no. I just love it. I love it. I just... That could be your new hobby.

Nick Bare (4:03)

Maybe that's your gift.

Stef Bare (4:05)

Sport betting?

Nick Bare (4:06)

Sport betting.

Stef Bare (4:07)

No, it doesn't sound like a very holy habit. What's cool, though, that I've noticed is like, our kids are excited about whatever we're excited about. So now it's like, guess, you know, when I was like showing you like the extents they all do when they're waiting to return, then like Nico was doing it, the kids are sitting on the couch with me and they just get excited because number one, they're just able to stay up late, but it's just cute how they enter whatever world you're in.
