The Joe Rogan Experience.

Joe Rogan (0:12)

What's happening, brother? We're up and rolling.

Sam Morril (0:14)

Thanks for having me.

Joe Rogan (0:15)

Pleasure to meet you, finally.

Sam Morril (0:16)

I know, I'm excited to be here.

Joe Rogan (0:19)

You're one of my favorite guys.

Sam Morril (0:20)

Really?

Joe Rogan (0:22)

Thank you. Yeah, there's this group of guys that are coming up that are so good right now.

I feel like this is a great time for fresh up and coming comedy talent. It's like there's so many guys who've been doing comedy like 15 plus years who're just fucking starting to crack.

Sam Morril (0:38)

Yeah, our group is like really, my closest friends, they work their ass off, so that makes me work my ass off.

Joe Rogan (0:45)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I love it too. That's so important. We were talking about Shane Gillis. Shane Gillis has this fucking bit last night about George Washington that's so good.

It's so good. Like, I was watching, I was going, God damn, this is great. Because it's like a perfect bit that combines his love of history with just like Shane, you know, like his, the way he acts things out. I don't want to give up any of it up. It's so fucking funny.

Sam Morril (1:13)

There's nothing worse than trying to paraphrase another comics bit that they're working on. And then they're like, why did you do that? You made my bit unfunny.

Joe Rogan (1:19)

I would ruin it and I'd give it away. And on top of that, it's like, it's very physical. You have to see it if you see it.

Sam Morril (1:26)

He's a rare combination of a great joke writer, but also a great performer.

Joe Rogan (1:30)

Yeah.

Sam Morril (1:30)

I mean, when he did Trump speed dating in that sketch, that was like, I was like, I don't like Trump impressions. I think they're kind of an easy impression.

Joe Rogan (1:38)

Yeah.

Sam Morril (1:39)

And I was like, that's a great Trump impression.

Joe Rogan (1:41)

It's amazing, but with great lines.

Sam Morril (1:43)

That's what I mean. Impressions, I don't like when people write off impressions because impressions crack me up if they have good writing.

Joe Rogan (1:49)

Right, right. That's the thing, it's like crowd work. Like you get like an extra bump off the fact that it's all happening live. Like, whoa, this is crazy.

But if someone's good with it and they've got good lines, it's fun to watch.

Sam Morril (2:01)

Yeah, nothing is, that's a mistake a lot of comics make was like, this is hack. Or it's like, nothing is inherently hack.

Joe Rogan (2:08)

Right.

Sam Morril (2:08)

Things can be, like I love like Kyle Dunnigan's impressions. I love his Bill Maher impression. I love like, I think if you nail it in a unique way that hasn't been nailed.

Joe Rogan (2:19)

Yeah.

Sam Morril (2:20)

That's what Shane did with Trump.

Joe Rogan (2:21)

Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Sam Morril (2:23)

To have Trump win in the sketch is funny.

Joe Rogan (2:26)

Yes.

Sam Morril (2:26)

Because if you just had like women being like, you suck, that's not funny. But the fact that Trump in the sketch is like just calling them like, the way he turns on him, it's perfect.

Joe Rogan (2:36)

As soon as they don't like him anymore.

Sam Morril (2:38)

But because it's Trump, that's, you nail Trump.

Joe Rogan (2:41)

Yeah, that's what he does. And also Shane actually likes Trump. Like he gets a kick out of Trump. So it's like, it makes it fun.

Sam Morril (2:47)

Well, it's hard to impersonate people that you don't like, right? It's like kind of like roasting someone you don't like. It's just weird.

Joe Rogan (2:52)

Right, right, right. Yeah, the roasting thing is weird. I mean, when I first went back to the comedy store in 2014, that was the first time I ever saw Roast Battle. And I was like, yikes.

Like these fucking people go hard in the pain at each other.

Sam Morril (3:07)

It used to be like, you look weird. Now it's like, this guy got raped in seventh grade. And you're like, that's the joke?

Joe Rogan (3:13)

Your wife and kids left you.

Sam Morril (3:17)

I saw one where the guy's like, his wife had a miscarriage. And I'm like, she's here.

Joe Rogan (3:21)

Oh, Jesus Christ.

Sam Morril (3:23)

Can you imagine being that wife? She's like, I didn't sign up for this shit.

Joe Rogan (3:26)

Exactly. I had to tell this to a comic the other day. He brought this girl as a date and he was talking about all the stuff they did. I go, dude, you just started dating her. And you're talking about her blowing you on stage. And then she has to see all these people.
