SPEAKER_3 (0:14)
Oh, the...
SPEAKER_4 (0:15)
Yeah, what is that?
SPEAKER_5 (0:16)
It's an NFT, sort of. It's like digital art.
It's Beeple. Do you know who Beeple is? He's the best.
SPEAKER_6 (0:21)
Brilliant.
SPEAKER_5 (0:22)
Every day, that guy puts out a new piece.
SPEAKER_6 (0:24)
Insane, and it's computer-generated, but does he go in and like paint?
SPEAKER_5 (0:28)
I don't understand how it works, but there's something involving computers.
SPEAKER_6 (0:33)
They should. I think there's a PalmPilot.
I think every time I see one of his pieces on Instagram, like, you know, they'll be like a sweeping sort of dystopian city.
SPEAKER_5 (0:46)
What the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_6 (0:47)
This is gonna give me nightmares forever.
SPEAKER_5 (0:50)
Look at the hair on the back. I got hairy legs.
SPEAKER_6 (0:54)
But wait, are these? Why are they look raspberries, but those are germs?
SPEAKER_5 (0:58)
I think. See, it says mild symptoms.
He's just such a character, too. He's a really fun guy. You would enjoy him on your podcast.
SPEAKER_6 (1:06)
My uterus right now. What is the what is the one where it's he'll do like a cityscape? And I'm like, oh, they should make an animated movie about his world.
Not that one.
SPEAKER_5 (1:18)
There's a bunch of them. Well, there's so many. The problem is he puts out one every single day.
SPEAKER_6 (1:23)
God, it's wild.
SPEAKER_5 (1:24)
Yeah. It's amazing stuff.
It's really good.
SPEAKER_6 (1:28)
It's almost.
I don't want to compare this. He'll probably hate me if he hears this, but it feels like it's got Banksy-esque commentary, like using sort of famous iconic images and subverting them.
SPEAKER_5 (1:40)
But he'll say, like when you ask him, like, you know, why do you have all the dicks dressed up as missiles? He's like, I don't know. I fucking just made a fucking picture of some dicks.
SPEAKER_6 (1:51)
That was us last night watching Top Gun, which I loved.
It was a mind-bending thrill ride. I was...
SPEAKER_5 (1:57)
Mrs. Rogan wasn't that into it?
SPEAKER_8 (1:59)
Well, it was...
SPEAKER_6 (2:02)
We definitely were laughing at parts that got a little too...
SPEAKER_5 (2:05)
Homoerotic?
SPEAKER_6 (2:06)
Like, melodramatic. It felt a little telenovela. And it was... It didn't help that all the machines looked like giant dicks flying through the air.
It was all these guys on dicks being like, love you, man.
But I thought it was cool, because it was just like... It was so unabashedly emotional and patriotic. And it was like a love letter to our forces.
SPEAKER_5 (2:30)
Oh.
SPEAKER_6 (2:30)
It really is. I mean...
SPEAKER_5 (2:32)
Well, they got in trouble, right? Like, China won't distribute it because he wore a Taiwanese flag on his back or something?
SPEAKER_6 (2:39)
Was that the Jon Hamm character? I think someone told me the character was so decorated and had one Taiwanese flag, and they might have made them take it out, of course.
SPEAKER_5 (2:46)
I think they were gonna take it out, but then they changed their mind or something. But it's like the pressure from China. Yeah, there it is.
Yeah. So here it is. 2019, the trailer for Top Gun Maverick showed Cruz's character, US. Navy pilot Pete Mitchell, in the same bomber jacket he wore in the original film, but two of its flag patches representing Japan and the Republic of China, the official name for Taiwan, appeared to have been replaced by other emblems.
Joe Rogan (3:12)
The movie is like four years old then, if there's a trailer in 2019
SPEAKER_5 (3:15)
That's wild.
SPEAKER_6 (3:16)
They're like, we can't believe Tom Cruise believes...
SPEAKER_8 (3:18)
So they started filming it then?
Joe Rogan (3:19)
I think it was supposed to come out, then the pandemic happened, and they're like, we need this to be in theaters, we gotta wait.
SPEAKER_5 (3:24)
Right.
SPEAKER_6 (3:25)
It's funny that the problem they have with Tom Cruise is that he believes Taiwan is its own country and not that he believes in aliens.
SPEAKER_5 (3:32)
Well, I believe in aliens. He doesn't believe in aliens. He believes that we are thetans.
SPEAKER_6 (3:37)
Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_5 (3:38)
That we were like dropped off in volcanoes. They were like ice cubes.
SPEAKER_6 (3:43)
I have a hot take on Scientology, which is that I drive by the Creepiest Scientology Center in LA now, and I'm like, you know what? I'm glad anyone that thinks that's a good idea is in a building.
Anyone that would be vulnerable to that is just, they've got them. They stay in there. They go on boat. What would the people that think Scientology is a good idea to subscribe to be doing if Scientology was not available to be the cult that they're a part of?
